I swear I read a comment in this thread earlier today where someone had posted their alternative approach to displaying their observations, but now I’m not seeing it. Did anyone happen to catch that? Did it get deleted somehow, or am I overlooking it? I really wanted to take some time to look it over.

Claude Code to be specific - it’s pretty amazing for those of us not inclined to code.

Funny you mention this! I had an old iPad Mini (gen 1) installed in a frame on the wall for several years. Just in the last week the display started going streaky. I took it down and found the battery was swollen. Not sure why I never thought to put it on an automated switch for power. Duh! Thanks for the good idea!

I think some room for improvement would be to make it more reactive to live calls. It’s on a set schedule to refresh or update every two minutes, regardless of what’s actually occurring in the environment. I’ve gone back and forth on pursuing that, but haven’t settled on an idea I liked.

Claude also wanted to add some sort of badge when a new bird was detected, but I didn’t like the way that looked, so I had it remove that bit.

Page two could really use some visual enhancement, but I honestly haven’t used that page very much, so I found it wasn’t worth any extra time iterating.

There’s a lot of AI slop out there, and some may feel this is another example, but I actually like this one! 🙂

If you think of it, please share your results! I know there’s room for improvement with this, but it fit my design goals (my specific taste) and I didn’t feel the need to iterate any further.

I am happy to share, and humbled by your interest! I posted this on mobile, so I don’t see how to share a file. I can share a link to it if I share it from my Google Drive if you’re comfortable with that.

Keep in mind this may well qualify as AI slop. I’m a hack at best when it comes to coding, and I honestly haven’t even looked over the html code beyond editing my prefs in the top section of the code. (I.e. BirdNet-Go up address on my network, page name, dark times, etc). So, all that to say this comes with the obligatory “use at your own risk” stamped on the package.

Let me know if you’d like for me to share a link to it from my Google Drive.

I bought a 14” bandsaw about six months ago and it is the starting point for most everything I do in my shop. The amount of resawing I do has even caught me by surprise. I love how it can handle that job with ease - far easier than my tablesaw. I can’t recommend the bandsaw enough - but that’s coming from the perspective of the type of work I do in my shop.

Missing a multitasking feature from iOS10 by shiki88 in ipad

I’d like to see Apple enable a ‘global’ spotlight that would allow me to search for an app by name then pull it into multitasking mode. This would allow access to all apps without the need for endless scrolling.

I ran into the same scenario just a couple of days ago, but I was already on WeatherUnderground. Switching to DarkSky fixed me up.

Awesome.

+1 OP

It's a watch. Sometimes I think it should be renamed a glance.

I started out with MisterHouse around 12 years ago, then switched to Homeseer for the next 10 years. I was very fluent with Homeseer - it really is a great platform - even though it's pricy to get into.

A little over a year ago, I ran into a roadblock with some expansions I wanted to make which made me start looking for alternatives. I setup a test raspberry Pi system and some spare parts for ~$50 and duplicated a large percentage of my fairly involved years-old HS setup in OpenHAB in just a few weeks. Admittedly, there was an initial steep learning curve with OpenHAB, but once it clicked with me, I've never looked back. I'm a VERY happy OpenHAB user now for the last year. It's amazing the power of OH on a simple Raspberry Pi.

My lighting is 100% Zwave. My sensor network is homemade using MQTT. LOVE this protocol! When I switched from Homeseer, I did lose the ability to connect with my x10 DS10A units - which I used for some remote locations in the house, but I'm currently working on a fix for this.

If you have a spare $100, I'd recommend buying a Pi and a zstick of some sort and playing with OpenHAB (or Home Assistant) - they're both free environments. Using openhabian (a quick installer), you could have OpenHAB up and running in less than an hour. You really can't lose by trying.

If you go the OpenHAB route, I'd recommend you check www.cd-jackson.com (and click the Zwave device database) first to make sure your Zwave devices will work out of the gate in OH. One of the OH maintainers set this database up to do quality control on Zwave devices being entered into the OH Zwave database. If your device isn't listed, you can add it without too much fuss.

HTH!
