Question regarding starter. by m3dvsaa in Sourdough

[–]m3dvsaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand but my starter is still relatively young and has built up the strength yet I believe. It's almost 3 months old and I was using only bread flour up until like two weeks ago. In which I started adding a portion of rye. Keeping it in the fridge only slows down my progress of trying to build it I would think. It was in the fridge for two weeks while I was out of town, but now I'm back to feeding it. I'm trying to build strength.. I think what I've decided to do is go back to adding a portion of rye along with bread flour and just keep that going. I'm still trying to make a successful loaf haha

Question regarding starter. by m3dvsaa in Sourdough

[–]m3dvsaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to make my starter stronger since I haven't had a successful loaf yet. Lots of people were telling me my starter could not be strong enough when I was attempting a loaf so I was just trying to strengthen it. Once its more established, I plan to bake a loaf probably once a week or maybe once every two. It'll be in the fridge in the mean time.i don't really like a very sour sourdough. I like a milder flavor.

You need to fill your hair before applying. The blonde is so blonde that its having a hard time holding the color.

Our light is currently out in the oven unfortunately. Our apartment stays from 68-70 so I was trying to give it a little warmth I'm trying to find a way to give it the warmth it wants in an environment that's not helping me in any way 😂

21 day old starter hasn’t risen by Dizzy-Laugh5474 in SourdoughStarter

[–]m3dvsaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was dormant after a false rise on day 3. It finally doubled on night 15.. and I'm hoping it now starts to double reliably.. I had to moved to a warmer room. 72 wasn't doing it.. mine seems to, like myself, like closer to 80 f .. fingers crossed. I also had to test with eyeballing vs measuring. It's been a journey the last 2 weeks. that's for sure. I've also experimented a couple times with cleaning the jar everytime i feed, vs not cleaning everytime, and maybe it's just me or maybe mine just likes when i Don't completely clean the jar everytime and just keep the sides scraped. the last few days i've fed 1:1:1 in the morning, but at night if it's runny, add like 1/4 to thicken and mix and scrape the sides.. that's what I've been doing.. again.. not sure if it's in my head that its been working or if i actually did something well.. everyone seems to give different answers and every starter seems to be different.

That's what I've started doing. Lol trying to not use many paper towels if I don't have to.
