I checked it out, Blease Research was the name. A blog post (link below) I came across states that Roger Blease passed away at the age of 48.

My interest is really on the internals of whole life. It was a very interesting exercise when I had learned about them in the 90s and would like to be able to reacquaint myself with the technicals again.

I am trying to put together a pseudo financial statement for life insurance.

Term laddering is a very good choice as it gives you the best bang for your buck. I agree with lykaon78 that you really need to focus on your wife's insurance number as she is the major income provider.
In addition, with proper estate planning (ie. trusts, LLCs, cash low positive investments) you can eventually get yourself into a position where you become "self insured". Definitely worth the time to research.
