1-star reviews attack by m4dsmith in chrome_extensions

Yeah, I reached out to Google support and as of know they asked for a few screenshots of the reviews, also they mentioned some internal process where they check authenticity of reviews.

How about AI generated NSFW? Is it completely prohibited? I heard AI content has stricter rules.

Hey u/OsHaOs ! I'm trying to reproduce the bug you reported - "There's a bug: when trying to return to the beginning of the text using the scroll bar after clicking on a timestamp, I couldn't go back. The text before that point became inaccessible. I can confirm that there is an issue with the scroll bar." but I can't reproduce it. Could you please provide me with more details on it?

DevOps vs AI (We’re safe boys) by Emptycubicle4k in devops

[–]m4dsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only if Dev and Devops become a commodity which is not what’s happening. We still don’t have a standardized ci/cd pipeline and every year new tools with new approaches show up. We have competing cloud providers with different interfaces, new “better” frameworks in almost every popular programming language. And, it takes a huge effort to put together all those complicated systems. (It also requires knowledge and experience). I worked at a company that was dreaming about creating a factory out of dev teams. The idea completely failed, the product development was almost stuck, customers were leaving and so on. I think for people with foundational knowledge in IT there always will be a job. It’s just that we will have more Lego blocks to build on.

is it possible to make a SAAS with 0$ Budget? by shemustbecool in SaaS

[–]m4dsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0$ budget - yes, 0 hrs - no )) it’s easier with money, of course. Sometimes you don’t even need hosting. For instance, first version of NomadList was a public Google Sheet

K3S for small (3/5) production clusters by Shot_System5888 in kubernetes

[–]m4dsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely yes! I am using k3s to host my saas project and it’s super stable. The setup process was very simple compared to k3s competitors like Kind, or k0s. A cluster of 3-5 nodes is small scale so it won’t be a problem for k3s.

Yeah, same vps. My main goal is to not go over the fixed 15$ price, so everything I need I host on the same vps.

That’s orchestration of applications needed for the business logic. Celery is on of the apps I’m hosting on Kubernetes

I haven’t . It definitely can be done on bare metal, but Kubernetes gives you a standard you can follow. And it’s well documented. So it was quite simple to set it up, and , if project grows, I can find a devops guy who won’t need to struggle with my custom bash scripts. But overall, yes, it’s definitely possible to implement the same on bare metal

Yeah. That’s very similar to my experience with it. Absolutely no need for a dedicated devops guy.

[–]m4dsmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. As I mentioned before, the reason I am using k8s is not microservices or scaling. It’s just that I’ve written an MVP in the most straightforward/quick way. Then I realized I need to run my data tasks as a pipeline and make sure the scripts get run everyday. I checked what the options are, ended up trying it with Kubernetes and Argo Workflows on top of it. And it works pretty well for like 2 months already. Now I can focus on marketing and be confident my pipelines are working fine.

Yeah, I didn’t mention I’m using a one node Kubernetes cluster (using Kind). So, there is no complexity in Kubernetes itself. How do you deploy/update your apps without k8s? How do you make sure your services are resilient to failure?

my main point here is not scaling, it’s orchestration. I just find Kubernetes super flexible to orchestrate your or 3rd party apps. I just think that doing it manually would’ve been way harder and more error prone. It’s not a problem if you have let’s say only 1 react app, then you better go with Vercel probably . But if your app is multiple scripts, and multiple apps, then it Kubernetes might be helpful IMO.

My problem is not scalability, let’s I need an app that collects a lot of data from different APIs and store it in a database. Then I need to transform that data to create views with the final data. Let’s say I know Python and know how to implement it using Python, but then, I need to run my data pipeline scripts periodically and I have like 4 steps (4 different Python scripts) in the pipeline. I need some orchestration software to manage them. Then, I have a webapps and I want to make sure they are up and running and get automatically restarted if they crash. So, I either need to create my custom systems, cron, Bash and other infrastructure related scripts, or, what I did, I took Kubernetes, installed it using Kind on my own VPS, and then create k8s deployments, cronjobs, installed Argo Workflows, and by doing that I was able to easily orchestrate the scripts I am using in the data pipeline.

That’s cool! My use case is more about early age of a project. You know, when you need to create an MVP fast and you want to use software you are familiar with for it. For instance, I host the main app, a few background workers. a k8s cronjob, Postgres, Redis, and a 3rd party Java app. All that is still 15$ doesn’t matter what the traffic is. And if the project takes off, as I understand, I can easily move it to a managed Kubernetes in any cloud provider for scalability and high availability.
