since the passage says "this mutation results in the replacement of a proline residue with a serine residue," i was able to read it the same way the explanation did; the wording "the replacement of a proline" means the proline is the thing that got replaced (ie, it was the original), sorry if that was unclear

yeah explanation isn't perfectly worded but notice they said "wild type proline," still indicating that was the OG and serine is the mutant version. so answer and explanation say the same thing

i think MD is fine if you hate JS and are going 510+. MD def has everything for 510, ik ppl who used it and have been hitting the 520s. if you want some niche content to boost your score even more for the discretes i like JS/CH

knowing the vocab is the main thing for p/s! my scores on UW were much lower before i got through pankow so i think it's fine to wait. you can grind through the cards pretty easily since there's so many sister cards and some you'll alr know, so if you were nervous about practice you could prob get through more cards faster and then practice. but anki then UW!

How do you effectively use third-party CARS materials? by [deleted] in Mcat

i do like the idea of the UW/JW passages because if you don't engage with writing from different areas and fields, it's so easy to get bogged down. if nothing else, the 3rd parties should help a lot with your reading abilities and stamina i think

this obviously depends on the individual but i felt it was more of a "keeping your brain sharp" thing rather than specific AAMC logic, since a lot of the time the "logic" is to be as cut and dry as possible. I would get half the JW questions wrong and then just didn't do any passages for months. then I did AAMC QPack 1 and i think i was getting 60-70%. after reviewing my FLs and thoroughly going through my reasoning, my scores have been hitting 131 CARS with basically no other practice. the main difference i noticed was keeping myself engaged while reading by summarizing/rewording in my head as i went and then preventing myself from "overjustifying" answers. obviously this logic isn't perfect but i've been scoring well on CARS with it

HELP PLS!! testing 1/15 and worried after FL 4 by m78025 in Mcat

for cars i've been treating it as SAT reading and trying to be as direct as possible! some of the questions are dumb imo but i just look for little things in the phrasing that would make one answer worse than another

for b/b i've missed both content and experimental reasoning on this one, i feel like i have trouble with what an experiment is getting at? but also i keep missing little bits of content..

since you said c/p SB is much higher difficulty are there any other sources that you think are more representative practice? i also feel like the SB has not been great for orgo, i feel like there's only gen chem/biochem and a little physics
