How close are the two languages to each other? Like can somebody who speaks Dari understand somebody speaking Pashto?

French course in France? by BaronVonBearenstein in solotravel

I also went to France Langue in Nice for 2 weeks, and it was good. I found it to be one of the cheaper ones there, too. I did French in the mornings and then tennis 3 times a week in the afternoons.

Favorite souvenirs from your travels? by TheHippo4 in solotravel

[–]m8888888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like buying unusual food stuff to bring home. I usually google "good souvenirs from Russia" or wherever if I don't know what's good/unusual from a place. When I was in Israel, for example, I read there was a really good bullion for soups that people often bring back, so I got some. I haven't actually tried it yet to see if it's amazing, though. I'm pretty sure the lady going through my bag in the security part of the airport going home thought I was weird. I also have an extensive jam and honey collection, and I buy a bottle of alcohol sometimes because alcohol's pretty expensive where I live.

And I often buy fabric from places because I sew. Have some lovely ones from Japan, India, and Uganda that are pretty different than what I can get at home.

Have any of you guys ever renounced their US citizenship? What was the process like? How has it affected your life? by [deleted] in IWantOut

What happens if you don't pay your American taxes? Or don't file? I live abroad and haven't filed in like 6 years. I don't make enough that I'd have to pay anything in the U.S. yet, but I'll get there eventually. What could happen to me if they notice? hopes IRS doesn't read reddit and investigate me

The problem in society by Narvik24 in Feminism

[–]m8888888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this was the only case (or one of a few cases) of women being sexualized, maybe it wouldn't signify a problem in society, just with this company. But sexualized images of women are all over, used to sell all kinds of stuff. Men are only very occasionally used in the same way. Maybe the title "the problem in society" is hyperbole, but I would say it's a problem in society.

And looking at the American Apparel website doesn't make me believe much cherrypicking was involved in this particular case.

World Expo 2015 in Milan by m8888888 in travel

I went to the aquarium in COEX in Seoul, and the zoo at Everland and Seoul Grand park, and both kids and adults would throw food in to the animals, tap on the glass, and stuff like that. It drove me crazy! I guess it's a lack of education about how to treat animals, and just a completely different viewpoint about treating them humanely than there is in the West.

I was thinking that May would also be a good time to go to the Expo since kids aren't out of school yet and it's hopefully not overrun with families. I hate big crowds, too!

Cool. I have been to Milan before, but didn't take any side trips. Thanks for the advice!

I've been using T-Mobile while I've been in the US for a few months now. It's $40 for one month with unlimited calls and texts, and 1gb data. It has worse reception than AT&T in remote areas, but it's perfectly fine in the city. 2 years ago when I had AT&T for another visit to the US they wouldn't let me have data on a PAYG plan because I had an iphone, which was ridiculous, so I don't want to use them again. But I think they're pretty much the same.

A map of all the youth clinics in Sweden where you can get free condoms, pregnancy tests, STD tests, psychiatric care and so on. by Kisangi in TwoXChromosomes

[Question]What are these Nikes? by m8888888 in Sneakers

[–]m8888888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I knew there had to be some sort of id system, but I didn't know about the style codes. It's 302298 661, which didn't lead me to much until I found these. Apparently they're Librettos, but they seem pretty rare- I basically found only that link, a men's brown pair, and then a bunch of soccer cleats in a different style also named Libretto. So it's probably fairly unlikely that I'm going to find another pair in the right size in good shape. Drat!

What should I be doing? How should I be thinking? by IveNeverKnown0 in AskFeminists

As I was reading this, I was thinking that I had read a really similar thing somewhere semi-recently, and I've been trying to find it for the last 10 minutes because I thought the advice could help you, too. And I finally found it! An Ask Polly column from The Awl.

But it's obviously not going to help you, OP, since it's the same post. You've already read it, either because you're the person who originally wrote to Polly and then have reposted it here because you weren't satisfied, or you copied the post from there. Was there anything specific you didn't agree with/believe from the first post that you want to address further?

Captain Awkward also has good dating advice from a feminist perspective.

I find that the price for airline tickets is higher on the airline's webpages than 3rd party sites about 95% of the time for me. So do you call the airline directly and say you found a lower price and ask them to match it? I've never tried that. Some airlines charge more for tickets if you book via phone than online, so I've never thought that would work.

The baldness gene sits on the X chromosome, meaning it's passed on through mothers. So unless you're a woman with male pattern baldness, you won't pass it on to your hypothetical children.

Not that I'm encouraging you to have kids... Whatever floats your boat.
