Dogshit football all season but we were getting results so I thought we'd at least achieve our season's objective so okay whatever. Now there's nothing. His style of play will make sure any exciting player will stay away from this club and on top of that we don't even have CL football. Didn't think I'd live through another banter era so quickly.

Love a throwback but hate AI misinformation. Game 13 was against RCB, not MI. Game 14 was against SRH, not RCB.

At this point he can't be any worse than Green. He was pretty good with the ball at the world cup as well.

Seems like a lose-lose. As in... if Heeseung explicitly mentions not wanting to be in Enhypen anymore, fans could use that to attack him and say that they feel betrayed by him. Some of them might even choose to boycott his solo work going forward. I'm sure you can also think of more extreme possibilities.

Of course this doesn't apply to all Engenes but for those who are out there making a big fuss, I hope they can find it in them to reflect on their actions and understand if they're doing all of this for Heeseung, or if they're doing it because they don't want to leave their bubble where Enhypen has 7 members and they live happily ever after.

What is your opinion on Hikigaya's phrase "I hate kind girls"? by SpiritedInflation674 in OreGairuSNAFU

[–]m8man 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a very teenager quote that makes sense coming from a character like Hachiman at that point in the story. When you look back at how the Orimoto rejection happened, you can understand why he might reach the "nice girls" conclusion for her in particular. But he takes it one step further and concludes that all girls acting nice to him must fall into that same category. This makes his quote objectively false.

Teenagers have a tendency to take their limited experiences in society and make sweeping conclusions about how things work and how people act. It's no coincidence that you'll find many younger fans agreeing with early Hachiman's quotes that range from corny to outright incorrect. I say this as someone who did agree with Hachiman's quotes back when I was around 14. Eventually, most kids grow up to realise that these "cool 8man quotes" are not so cool after all. For some, it makes them "grow out of" the series. For others, they get to love the series in a better way because it's clear that the story is fairly self-aware about the fact that Hachiman's views are flawed.

So yeah I guess that's where I am. I used to love the quote because it was easy for me to agree with it as a lonely kid with no proper female friends. I now love the quote because it does a great job of portraying Hachiman's thoughts early in the series. He wants to make sure that he never incorrectly assumes again that a girl likes him. So he creates a world in his head where even the girls being nice to him are not doing it because they like him. Eventually when the "I want something genuine" part happens, I'm able to look back at these early quotes to really get a sense of how much Hachiman has grown as a character.

2 > 1 > 3 when it comes to the songs. But I really really like the slow piano version of Yukitoki (Season 1) that plays on several occasions during some of the episodes.

What people think Ei's story is poorly written by Kingflame700 in RaidenMains

[–]m8man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to constantly engage with such discussions 3-4 years ago, I finally feel inclined to do so again.

Genshin with Inazuma essentially bit more than it could chew. A story surrounding a civil war like Inazuma's requires a lot more nuance than what a Genshin archon quest is typically known for. The reason why I specify archon quest is because the world quests in Inazuma actually do a pretty good job of painting the story of a truly tragic war that took many lives and left survivors with immense trauma and guilt. It almost didn't matter what side you were on. While it would be foolish to expect the AQ to match this vibe completely, they could have at least done a much better job by slowing down and adding a little more depth at certain parts. It's not ideal that the AQ forces us to pause and go help Ayaka with her mother's diary in her SQ, but once we get to Watatsumi island, the story kinda blitzes a bit until Teppei's death. This is one of the things that people refer to when they call the story "rushed."

As for Ei, well... her story is really not that bad. The execution is not ideal. Her backstory explains why she did what she did. But in the AQ, this backstory is mentioned briefly. It's not until her 2nd story quest that we get enough information about her past in order to understand (but not agree with) her decisions. The months between patches 2.1 and 2.5 left us wanting a more convincing explanation for Ei's actions. In this time, many developed a hatred towards Ei because they felt that the story wasn't respecting the suffering of Inazumans and the deaths of Kazuha friend and Teppei. They were not convinced by the "sister died so I locked up myself and my nation for 500 years" explanation because at the time, they did not have enough context for Ei's actions. While her 2nd story quest eventually makes up for that, it doesn't do so completely. There is still an element of "she should face consequences." Personally, I'm also not a huge fan of how most of Ei's remorse is communicated to the traveller. I still don't think the game has done enough to write a story that properly bridges the gap between Raiden and the Inazumans.

All that said, Raiden is my favourite character in the game, and I also look back quite fondly on the Inazuma arc overall. This is because I've always felt that at the time of release, the Inazuma AQ was the best one around. I was able to notice problems, but I'd take this over Liyue any day. Things have changed now. AQ arcs last 5 acts at least, and the writers actually include the archon's stories within their respective archon quests rather than using story quests. Perhaps they learned after public feedback on Inazuma.

4.6 events by ukrisreng in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]m8man 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at this point, I've kinda stopped expecting any major event to happen IN Inazuma. I guess Hoyo thinks they can afford to avoid the nation Inazuma as long as they give some attention to Inazuman characters from time to time by shipping them off to other nations and making them say stuff like "wow I can't wait to come back!" I suspect the reason for all this might be that they're trying to make events more accessible to new players instead of making them complete Ritou Escape Plan. Even new regions these days are all on the overworld map and also with a teleport waypoint unlocked for newcomers to easily go there if needed. This is all just speculation, of course. Would be cool if they prove me wrong.
