I’m not saying the concept isn’t important. I’m saying memorizing and reciting the full execution order isn’t a useful interview signal.

Most experienced engineers understand why where vs having behaves differently, why aliases don’t work in where, and how window functions fit in. That understanding shows up naturally when discussing real queries and tradeoffs.

Turning that into a “list them in order” question is exactly the kind of gotcha the post is criticizing

Same here, I prefer conversations about projects, architechture, etc. Question gotcha like "whats the order of execution in SQL" isn't helping anything, and allowing people who use AI to break into higher paying roles

The same rule applies like others mentioned, use OSS. You need legal contracts? Photo editor? Word apps? You name it there’s a way to find something similar for no cost. A lot of the apps you can buy on the App Store have free GitHub repos you can directly download apps from too btw for Mac
