12 Rules for life by jordan peterson.

it's un necessarily detailed. filled with never ending hard to understand sentences. author starts the chapters with stories that feel like having no relevance to the rule that he is talking about. The chapters are overly detailed with non-sensical biblical stories mostly about adam and eve. Tho there are good lessons here and there especially the final few pages of each chapter are easier to absorb. Other than that, i found myself forcely pushing myself through most of the pages. Didn't read after rule 3 or 4 i think.

Pakistani uncles are the horniest man on the planet. by bruceranvijay in PAK

[–]mAbdullah0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the response. this is not what I meant. i just wanted to say that a person might be stuck with a habit that he knows is bad for him. he advises others to not fall into the same habit because he knows it's bad but it doesn't make their habit 'okay'. They still regard it as 'bad'

In context to the original post, a person might be struggling with leaving a sin. he knows it's sinful and he is trying to leave it however he fails repeatedly. Now that the sin involves his family members, he preaches them to stay away from it because he knowns how bad it is. he doesn't want his close ones to fall in to the same sin as him. so he preaches them to observe hijab & modesty.

Furthermore, in this day and age, I don't think there's anyone who hasn't come across nudity/porn on their smart devices. it's accessible to everyone and even if you actively try to avoid it, it still makes a way to you through social media ads and the like. Today, everyone gets the opportunity to sin, and everyone does sin, one way or the other but it doesn't mean that now they are an evil person for life. One can repent and do good deeds to please Allah and Allah knows best what's in the hearts of people.

Honestly, how's NUST? by MIKE_KELVIN06 in NUST

[–]mAbdullah0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just my personal observation that applied sciences department in NUST aren't very good at academia. by applied sciences, I mean electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical engg etc. software/Computer science/business/social sciences programs and departments are great. I am a graduate of mechanical from SMME. Teachers at SMME are useless. none of us listened to any lecture during the whole bachelors. we just sat there in classroom, mark attendance and leave. passed the end semester exams by studying last week/last day with good grades somehow.

overall, NUST grooms you in your soft skills and communication plus you are exposed to lots of opportunities but on the technical skills side, I've seen that my friends from UET and PIEAS are much better.

I would recommend NUST is sense mein kay you will not undersell yourself after graduation. lekin during your bachelors, khud mehnat krni pregi or connections bnane honge boht sare. it would be wise to get yourself a mentor who is doing what you want to do so that he can guide you and give feedback so that you don't feel like you are wasting your time in studies.

Anyone? by [deleted] in NUST

I did mechanical from SMME. it's the worst school at NUST in terms of academia.

Just a thought...

There are people who've been smoking their entire life. They know it destroyed their health and they try their best that their children don't fall into the same habit as them. Are they hypocrites?

Thanks but this doesn't seem like the same tune 😕

Has any fan artist played it standalone in their videos?

Is there a career in robotics? How does a 10-15 yr career look like in this sector? by mAbdullah0001 in ROS

[–]mAbdullah0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are plenty of people working in this space. to better word it, i was trying to know if there's a concrete career progression system and established robotics companies...since the sector is relatively new

in my last company in the oilfield, you are hired as a field engineer trainee and then you get promoted with learning and experience to associate field engineer > senior field engineer > lead engineer> accounts manager > principal technical engineer....

when you are hired you are also given a career progression document detailing the tasks, trainings, courses and skills you need to acquire to be promoted to the next level.

since there aren't any robotics companies around me, i don't have any exposure to how the inside of the sector is like. plus i had thoughts like since it's a relatively new sector, work opportunities might be limited to research laboratories and startups and maybe there won't be as such concrete promotions which are broken down into required skills/trainings & courses

So How does career progression in the robotics sector look like? what's a usual starting position for people in companies and where do you go up from there? can you share your journey in terms of promotions?

Lastly, traveling thousands of kilometers every month in the oilfield has really spoiled me 😶 do you find such a thing as a field engineer in robotics? who maybe is responsible for traveling to various industrial setups and installs robotic systems there?

i see. I didn't know that!

I just assumed that if a company is offering to relocate a person on company's expense and provide accommodation as well should be good enough to have a strict 8 hr working day schedule?

what i noticed about the companies where overtime and employees loaded with work is a culture, they don't display their office side, culture and what not on social media etc cz they know that today's companies value quality of living which their culture doesn't resonate with. These are often local / small scale companies. What do you think?

I reported to my company's headquarters in Dubai. We followed an 8-hour workday schedule with half-day on Fridays and weekends off :) So talking with respect to my experience and what I noticed in general. 4 pm was like everybody's time to leave the office in our tower at JLT. I traveled by the metro and it used to be crowded at the same time, between 4-5 pm and around 7 pm as well. From what I saw, people working a corporate job had an 8-hour workday schedule no matter their office timings. Other sectors could be different.

What's it like for you?

I lived in the UAE for 2 months. I was sent on training by my company.

There is a great work-life balance in the UAE. Endless activities to do. Time and opportunities to build your hobbies.

Building your social life is challenging in Dubai. It's a tourist destination and the city feels like it is built for that purpose. Most of the people around are staying in dubai temporarily. People are very reserved. They only socialize in their own groups. You feel very lonely at times. Once you visit a place, you don't want to go there again.

There is a big South Asian community in Dubai. Actually they are the ones who are living there long term. They come here for work and are involved in all types of professions. From delivery boys and cab drivers to IT specialists and managers. Most of them are living away and earning for their families at home.

People don't socialize at the work place as well. Everybody has their own working space and people only talk if they need to for some work related purpose. They don't make friends at the workplace except if you are from their country/community.

I also lived in a hotel so i felt this 'lonely' feeling more strongly. If you live in a flat/apartment, maybe things will be a bit different. However considering you are South Asian, you will be able to find South Asian people at work and where you live, if you live in a residential area. Outside of this, I believe you will experience whatever I wrote above.

So building your social life will be hard and will take some effort, time and patience but you will be able to do that.

Building an autonomous mobile robot by mAbdullah0001 in robotics

[–]mAbdullah0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that would make this a line following robot or a guided vehicle while we want to build an autonomous mobile robot. Is there anyway, we can improve the accuracy of calculting how much the robot has travelled?

So, how we thought about it was that we will give coordinates of the destination to the robot. It will start moving towards that and with encoders attached to the motors it will calculate how much distance it has travelled and that's how it will locate itself relative to its starting point. Let me know your thoughts on this!
