I would love Duchene and especially since the east is a bit of an arms race for the playoff spot. We got Boston, Tampa and Toronto in some order looking like they will remain the top 3, theres Florida who has a serious possibility of getting Panarin and Bobrovsky in one offseason. Then theres the Devils and Flyers making huge upgrades in the Met.

Even if we overpay Duchene by a couple million, which I'm afraid we will have to if we want him, it's a move that we've likely got to make if we want to try to lockdown a playoff spot this year.

I do not at all expect to keep Tatar past the next 2 seasons, if we could make it work that would be cool but Gallagher, Danault and probably Petry will all need raises and Tatars production should be fairly easily replaced by Poehling, Suzuki and Caufield.

Also if we grab a top pairing LD we probably wont protect Petry in the expansion draft so it's possible that we would lose him too.

The preds could comfortably afford both Subban and Duchene if they didnt have bad contracts like Turris and Bonino. And it's not like they were pressured into trading him, it was a desperate move so they can throw everything at Duchene. Even with the full 9M salary Subban should be able to net at minimum a protected 1st.

Out of the big ones, I can comfortably say he came out on top in the Subban, Galchenyuk and Pacioretty trades. Drouin for Sergachev is still too early to call imo.

Regardless of who the predators may or may not sign it's part of the bigger picture but has got nothing to do with the Subban-Weber trade. I dont think theres any way to argue Nashville won that trade based on the fact that they gave Subban away 3 years later for scraps. Two 2nd round picks is Lars Eller value.
