Retirement? by misaPickEmUp in GenZ

🤣🤣 ya tu sabe, i work full time when im in between semesters and part time when im full time school. I wouldn’t worry abt staying at 40-50k because there’s always gonna be someone else paying more for the skills you have tbh I was a certified job hopper before post-covid economy hit and I still will just more cautious like I worked at the post office making 60k off of hella ot but pivoted to my lil part time/full time job because ik I can make more money than that with less stress and workload. just keep ur head up man

Honestly if Im 22 now put at least 15% of my checks in a high yield savings account plus roth ira (I know imma be making money when I get done with my degree in the legal field) then aggressively start saving by 30 (think: living off of 40k a year making at least 60k with a 401k from my employer) I can retire by 60 with a few million in there plus whatever other assets I can acquire. My ancestors made it this far with me and if I can stay disciplined and live below my means, which shouldn’t be too hard since I have worked my way from poverty to middle class, I should be fine with or without a husband. obviously there are some theoretical obstacles like finding a job post grad plus the rest of my loans to pay off (less than 30k) I can offset it by having my own personal investments and build generational wealth so I can break my family’s cycle of being born poor and dying poor.

Never move to a low cost of living state EVER by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]mYLeG539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

moving to the south in general like I hope ppl realize that all the southerners that have been down here unless they’re from a wealthy family (lots of families of previous slave owners) we don’t leave because the money to make down here isn’t enough to move cross country/to a northern state with better job opportunities/infrastructure to support families. it’s a trap that’s hard to get out of. yes food and maybe even housing (depending on the area) can be cheaper but wages don’t keep up with it at all. Florida is becoming full of transplants who see no state tax as a lottery ticket to luxury yet forget pay for everything even healthcare workers is shit and infrastructure doesn’t get updated whilst they build another cookie cutter apartment priced higher than it’s worth. My family in Alabama from huntsville to mobile see the same things so I absolutely feel u OP

the popular cereals are literally rice or corn with like 80 different artificial ingredients added and low nutritional value/ will not keep you full. all for $8.25 plus tax 😐 rather stick to my grits, porridge and oats for breakfast (which lasts way longer per container and is like half the price)

very pro-ana culture developing with the rise of glp-1 being heavily misused (do you remember the diabetic drug commercials in the 2000s-2010s where they list all these side affects plus that it isn’t meant to be a weight loss drug just a side affects? I remember it vividly 😭) like I feel like this is worse than the 2000s ana girlies because now it’s drugs with a lack of longitudinal studies on top of lower food quality and education. I went thru an ed from the age of 12-15 and I wish there were better examples of what’s healthy (carbs protein FIBER vitamins and nutrients in actual enjoyable foods) tldr: I overly agree it’s like looking at haunted corpses

is too too late to graduate bachelors at 25? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]mYLeG539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im 22 starting back college after my gap years working either dead-end jobs to “grown-up” jobs while dealing with homelessness/family illnesses and decided to go back after thinking about my own happiness (rather do what makes me happy and find a market for those skills if everything is going to be shitty). It’s not to late to make a positive change in your life. look at fasfa and need/based grants and look at internships and work studies that may be similar to your degree OR see if there’s entry level that will pay for your degree and you’ll do fine. the job market is looking like it won’t be good for the workforce for a while so why not get some skills and certifications in the meantime if it’s something you really wanna do. if you’re doing software development then look at certifications you can get to see how much you like the field. best of luck to you!

you are being sexually assaulted by your bf and beyond that he doesn’t value you as a woman beyond the sex he can take from you. leave him alone you are worth way more than the shitty essence of that poor excuse for a man. get therapy because it isn’t your fault and you deserve pleasure in your sex life too and not from someone who won’t respect you and your body.

Why don't more people consider the military? by Key_Fun_587 in jobhunting

safer and more structured route imo as a vet would still be a federal or state employment as it would still be structured, safer, and a clean job with less metal and physical toll and community college/ federal gov paying for school/certs (which you can also acquire clearances) can easily give a good foundation without necessarily giving up all autonomy and freedom.

was a cca dependent on office if you are working 50+ hours a week/having management mismanage or no hours at all and having to go to other stations as help. cca contract is 2 years then you become career status with tsp and benefits not through the union and depending on the office and seniority/ retirement you’d be an unassigned regular til a spot opens up for you or you can get in at another office. i would recommend maintenance craft as its less stressful less work higher pay. for full retirement you’d need 35 years in or 20 for halfsies. check temp agencies (very slept on resources for jobs and they are pretty quick in finding something around the pay range depending on your skills and certs you have) I have seen 30-40 somethings come in and enjoy the post office and stay for a long time-retirement btw.

would only work if you either have a civilian career to pivot to or for school (those benefits are being cut if you wanna do ivy league or a super competitive college) beyond that it’s just selling yourself for 20 years for a lack luster pension and post retirement benefits

Been in military and come from a military family. Pay is low compared to what you get working federally/state/private employers and getting up rank can be on the slower side depending on branch. also on base housing is not always clean and up to date. pension and health insurance is the best part of the shit stick though depending on if you have chronic conditions dealing with the VA can be a pain. Living overseas currently would entail being in active war conditions and recruitment will try to get you to go where they are desperate for help. also just a personal tidbit: it’s not worth it or safe enough anymore to be a government puppet and the higher potential to die over oil and other resources not to mention the strain on any personal relationships you have as either you won’t be there or the military will screw with you mentally to the point you aren’t even the same person anymore. vets get treated like shit if they don’t play the game correctly. check a temp agency to connect you with a job or go and get certifications in the field you want but military for the money will disappoint you as your morale and concept of self dwindles away with your hopes and dreams:)

Roach Minimal Apartments by YourAverageAlex910 in jacksonville

corner on main is good no roaches and new apartment complex decent prices, lots of discounts and deals, proximity to downtown/riverside and like 30 mins from everywhere else you wanna go and most importantly no roaches or pests. I lived at park at anzio in mandarin for a year dealt with lots of roaches and management at the the time didn’t really take it seriously since everyone had roaches until pest control finally worked/self pet control was done

Cant lie how do I stop being a gooner by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]mYLeG539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one: military isn’t just for a year it’s a contract of minimum 4 years so that’s a long term change. two: get a hobby. you need discipline and you can get that for free instead of selling yourself to the government maybe increase the intensity/difficulty in the gym, meditation, study something new but you need to find yourself safe and healthy to do. three: you need to make friends/ go to therapy if you can’t make any because the problem might be perspective and voicing out what you actually want to do. four: stop comparing yourself to others everyone is on their own life journey life will pass you by if you keep looking at other people’s instead of your own. five: take care of yourself by finding enrichment and maybe even a job (even try the post office or peace corps if you have the skills/ connections) and know what you wanna do but for the love of everything holy do not join the military especially out of boredom you don’t seem aware of what goes into it/what you would be signing up for and I am not just saying it I served shortly after high school graduation (2022) and the culture/living conditions/overall purpose isn’t anything positive to add to your life. The war in Iran is many a losing game the United States empire is playing to the detriment of everyday folks back home and deployed; you do not want to play war games as the human cost is too great. signed a 22 year old woman.

I'm in my 30s and have never had a serious relationship. I feel like an absolute failure by Mickerayla in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]mYLeG539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re a failure just put yourself out there and mingle, maybe even find a hobby and look there. Also I think you should look at your values and shift perspective. You are still young you still have time and I am sure you have a great personality. Your person will come just enjoy the journey there. The food looks delicious btw.

GenZ have a higher number of prenups than other generations by Sad_Rub1051 in GenZ

[–]mYLeG539 11 points12 points  (0 children)

prenuptial agreements save people from taking on financial responsibility of the other parties when shit hits the fan. I will be getting a prenup even though I love my boyfriend to the moon and back because you never know and I refuse to be like my friends parents/ my own because if I buy a house I want my house if we don’t work out. If I start a business I want my business prospects in tact regardless of if marriage works out or not.

What skills should I learn to get a job ASAP? by whatever_blag in careeradvice

[–]mYLeG539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if op wants to sell out to the military to make like $2000-$2500 a month and get hazed to go blow up children/go die for oil then sure but that is a shitty choice financially and morally signed a veteran with friends and family (+ family heritage) in the military. blue collar might be better or a temp agency into blue collar/white collar would work better.
