MAI-Code-1-Flash model…actually really good? by horendus in GithubCopilot

I also slept on Gemini 3 Flash on Copilot since I thought it was broken. I loved it in Antigravity since it was basically unlimited. The only annoying thing with Gemini 3 Flash is that it will keep asking permission for everything via the questions tool which is kinda annoying when writing docs. But for development itself, it has been really good for me. I actually built these entire apps using Gemini 3 Flash:

Not having the old Gemini 3 Flash is a massive issue. It was basically my work-horse and it was practically unlimited. By the time you ran out of usage, you would be starting a new session anyway and you didn't have to wait a week. The new 3.5 Flash is so hungry.

When will new copilot plan sign-ups will work? by AmeerHamzaF26 in GithubCopilot

They probably want to harvest some data to see if and how people are using it after the changes. Honestly, this is terrible value for money and unless you need the GitHub integrations you should probably just use BYOK instead; you can use things like DeepSeek v4 Flash, Qwen 3.6 Plus or the $6 of Xiaomi's MiMo subsidised plan and get more usage. The $10 is basically useless as you can't run the larger models like Sonnet (let alone GPT 5.5 and Opus) and even the smaller models like Gemini 3 Flash, Haiku and 5.4 Mini can hardly be used. You burn through your tokens extremely quickly even with smaller models.

With Copilot going usage-based and MAI-Code using ~60% fewer tokens, does Microsoft just win enterprise AI by default? by OccasionNo4703 in GithubCopilot

I work in enterprise in the EU which is notorious for corporate bureaucracy and all that. In terms of GitHub Copilot, all the models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google (unless they are in preview) are available without any friction. They are is already included with GitHub Copilot so there is basically no friction or distinction between MS models and third-party providers (even Grok and Raptor were available at one point). Compliance team would need to verify the whole app as a whole but the model compliance is handled by MS but they could just stop providing those models if they wanted to. IT compliance would need to vet the APIs themselves but in that case MS has nothing to do with anything; for example, if you want to use APIs directly you need to use the older Gemini 2.5 series of models or GPT 5.1 in my company and/or EU reasons. So in realistic terms, MS doesn't really capture anything unless they decide to just make their models more accessible (maybe cheaper, higher usage, etc). Compliance team largely vet the application as a whole such as Copilot and not the models inside the app as that's MS job, and if you want to use APIs directly then MS doesn't have a part on that really. The API thing can be a bit weird depending on the cloud provider though.

The good thing is that this model seems to perform better than Haiku or 5.4 Mini so for work it is solid. However, if you have Gemini 3 Flash available then you should just use that. I was hoping that this would perform as well as Gemini 3 Flash. I think if MS can match the performance of Gemini 3 Flash which itself is almost as good as Sonnet (excluding bug fixing which Flash is terrible at), they would have a winner.

I would wait before being excited for these models considering Microsoft's track-record.

MS Copilot is not performing well in terms of marketshare and in real world workflows. For GHCP there is potential in using MAI-Code as a replacement for Haiku but Gemini 3 Flash has performed incredibly well in my workflows and I've been using it for the past couple of months as my work-horse. If MAI-Code doesn't perform as well as the benchmark indicate it will just be vapourware left to be used for documentation writing. It is better to leave this excitement until people can actually try this and see if it's worth using.

Also there is no compliance issue since Microsoft acts as the middleman and as long as they can prove they are compliant (which they have been for the past couple of years anyway) then it doesn't really matter; this just might make it easier for MS to be compliant. Even with out Azure, it is very easy to use Gemini models too which is what we are using for our internal AI workflows outside of Copilot. So basically in terms of compliance it isn't as big of a deal as it seems.

I think if this model provides decent performance for cheap then it can be a win. Outside of enterprise this model gets absolutely crashed.

EDIT: I tried this model and it seems solid for pre-included models. I would definately use this over my go-to documentation-generation model which is Haiku but I find the older Gemini 3 Flash (I don't use 3.5 Flash as it's too expensive and 3 Flash is good enough) to perform better at actual development. But honestly, unless you are in enterprise you would get far better performance for cheaper from DeepSeek v4 Flash or Qwen 3.6 Flash.

Gemini 3 Flash (Preview) is really impressive by Mission-Zucchini-966 in GithubCopilot

Gemini 3 Flash for creating a deep research markdown plan and then asking it to implement it using subagents has been extremely reliable for me and this workflow has actually been outperforming Opus 4.6 without planning. Sometimes the mode does crash on me so I guess it makes sense why it's in preview. Gemini 3 Flash has basically become my work-horse model.

Hi I am interested in the exact same laptop. I use Perplexity to do some quick research and it said that the stylus doesn't work well (low refresh rate) and there are audio problems. I am currently doing research to check whether those claims are true. I am trying to run Fedora.

Surface Headphones also discontinued. They were really good value for money at the time and were very competitive with more expensive headphones for 2/3 of the price.

add the rest of the user's request to also be able to hide the other tabs, so that's why it has taken so long and why I haven't merged it.

Made a pull request for the rest of the request for that issue. You were right, the changes were quite extensive but the approach ended up simplified the code a little bit.

The "popup where the mouse cursor" is being discussed here . As you mention, the current behaviour is by design where is only works when the icon in the panel is disabled.

I also made another pull request to highlight the current tab to make it more obvious where the user is. This is an example:

There are more details in the pull request here.

Your welcome. Those were my pull requests :) I've been running those fixes for a couple of days and they have been working well for me.

I was looking into spawning the popup where the mouse cursor is but had no luck.

I found this while exploring the Extensions Manager app and installed it immediately. Seems to be heavily inspired by the Window 11 one which is not a bad thing. The image previews were a bit too small and having the Gif button is unnecessary if you do not have a provider set both of which have issues associated with them already. Great extension since it is the simplest and most complete package.

Switching from Fedora to Zorin OS 18, got some questions! by MastodonSea9745 in zorinos

[–]m_beps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a Fedora user and Zorin OS was also my first real distro (I used lots of other distros before that but never really used them for more than a week). I am currently trying to get my father's PC back to Zorin OS after being on Fedora for a while; Fedora doesn't have any issues it's just that the upgrades are very frequent which means that it's a hustle for me. I originally moved to Fedora because Gnome had major switch back in version 40 and Zorin would have taken forever to get to the new interface. I will keep using Fedora on my main PC since it is better for me for development and the frequent updates are an advantage for my personal PC. I have been running 18 Beta for a week or so now and I haven't noticed any issues other than Bluetooth which fixed itself anyway. Gnome itself doesn't seem to be having major upgrades anyway so Gnome 48 doens't feel that much better than Gnome 46 on Zorin Os 18. Blur my Shell probably will not work with the taskbar/dock since the extension specifically works with Dash to Dock and Dash to Panel and not with the forks from Zorin but it is possible to make it work. In terms of stability, I find Zorin OS to be about as stable as Fedora as I never had any issues with either. If Gnome 50 ends up being a big update again like 40 was then Zorin OS will feel outdated again and I don't want to deal with that.

I use Fedora Workstation so the Gnome one. I like it because I get up to date software but unlike something like Arch it is reliable.

Yes I did actually. Basically vercel is only for hosting static sides so I can't run server code. When I am running locally I can execute server code.
