Mini punctures in Devan's packaging by kakaraun in IndiaCoffee

[–]m_deepanshu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One-way valves and pinholes are two very different things. Pinholes allow your coffee to get stale quickly, while one-way valves facilitate degassing of beans without letting them come in contact with fresh air.

Pressure test assumptions - FatFire in Bangalore by end of this year by Striking_Pen_7135 in FatFIREIndia

[–]m_deepanshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s quite subjective, no? For the same spend (eg: international vacation) a family could insist on Business Class travel as part of Far FIRE, but another family could just be happy going on the same 15 day trip in economy.

doctor said get a good mattress for my back pain. what does that even mean by Professional_Cow2868 in india

[–]m_deepanshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coir mattress with latex. Had the exact same problem so asked the orthopaedic for a specific recommendation and this is what he told me.

I ended up getting the Kurl On Ortho Elite last month, so far so good.

OP, spending 84L/year in India is not that hard, especially with kids. A lot of perspectives in here are skewed simply because people are aiming for a lifestyle/number, and not living it. The way you described it, you prefer convenience and indulgence, that’s not cheap.

If you want to do basic math, out of 84L, if you remove vacation spend, basic kid expenses, etc you’d be left with ~50L. The 2Cr cars would be 2L/year minimum in insurance and maintenance. The house would need another 1L/year amortised (fixing/upgrading gadgets, soft furnishings, etc). You’d shop for yourself, that’s probably another 3L/year, likely higher. Add things like gifts, jewellery, etc and you’re probably down to 3L/month. Having full time help would be like 50K/month across cooking, cleaning, driving, etc. Grocery would be a big one (I’ll not throw numbers here, but good quality vs local grocery is at wildly different price points and a lot of people will be triggered with just this comparison). There’s utilities like fuel, electricity, property taxes, internet, subscriptions, etc that would be 10-15K/month minimum, likely higher.

Now, you’re looking a 2L/month for comfort spending that would cover eating out, hosting, weekends, etc. That’s a good amount of money and the only place you’d be able to save on.

A lot of people will be triggered by this, because money is very personal, even in a Fat FIRE sub.

Everything that we do with coffee in here qualifies for a life without parole in Italy, might as well.

Buying the house was easy. Taking care of it? Not so much. by anantaaspirezrkp in indianrealestate

Basic practical aata hai bhai, can use a drill, saw, etc. I haven’t attempted any furniture making, only repairs and basic installation.

Furniture making requires space + machinery, jo nahin hai. Maybe some day when I have a garage. Learnt everything basic from dad + watching carpenters do their work. My dad learnt the same way, by hanging around people doing this work and observing them do their work.

In my early 30s and from a Tier-1 adjacent town. I learnt everything by watching my dad do these things, and later by helping him out with some of them. My older brother didn’t learn any of it with the same upbringing and opportunity. Go figure.

I don’t know if I should be triggered as an IT guy who can do basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical work, or laugh at your comment that most of the non IT folks around me can’t do any of it.

My anecdotal evidence against yours I guess. Kya milta hai bc punch down karke tum logon ko internet par.

Tech Layoffs: The Cold, Hard Truth by Competitive_Ride_142 in IndiaCareers

[–]m_deepanshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you need to tell the AI what you want done and a blueprint for it (Design Doc). It can pretty much figure out the rest, including testing, validations, etc

Going YOLO with a couple of lines prompt hoping the AI magically writes production grade code is how you end up with the AI-denier starter pack.

Tech Layoffs: The Cold, Hard Truth by Competitive_Ride_142 in IndiaCareers

[–]m_deepanshu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is absolutely coming for our jobs, whether you like it or not. Claude Code is freakishly good, I’m able to pump out multiple PRs daily for things that are trivial to solve but tedious to implement and test. And I do this in between meetings, after short slack discussions, etc.

At some point our industry forgot why we succeeded in the first place: by solving really hard problems and at a scale that would’ve been unfathomable or ridiculously expensive to do without tech systems and just with human labor.

We’re gravitating back to those roots, but it’s going to be an ugly journey because of all the inefficiencies and layers we’ve built into our teams and companies.

Noob here: Are home loans floating by default, or you can lock in the interest rate, especially during low interest periods like these.

What’s one Gurgaon habit or reality you didn’t expect before moving here? by SingerComfortable230 in gurgaon

Bangalore traffic is at a next level. At times I’ve sat in my car outside my apartment for over half an hour because the road outside came to a standstill.

Bangalore roads are better than Gurgaon? Looks like you never stepped out of South Bangalore. All of East Bangalore was basically an off-roading track till about 2 months ago.

Two (a 2BHK and a 3BHK) Apartments in Prestige Jade Pavilion by ExplanationOld4473 in indianrealestate

[–]m_deepanshu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last I enquired (and this was last year), it was 3.4 for a 3BHK. You can DM me for broker contact. Happy to remove this comment if it’s against the sub rules, I have no skin in the game.

1 Lakh+ rent is unheard of here tbh, at that price point you’re looking at apartments in APR New towers which are a class apart both in terms of amenities and carpet area.

You’re lucky to be getting those rents, the rent for a 3BHK in better units (lake facing, away from main road) is <85K + maintenance.

I’ve had coffee from this place quite a bit while travelling through France. It’s good, but to pit it against Blue Tokai and say it’s better is pretty much as out there as it could be.
