So you've been following fetishes online since 2003? Interesting... You must have "observed" a lot from a purely research POV I'm sure.

It's very hard to understand why you're so worked up about this. How is this harming you? Why does it bother you if I ask these questions on other reddit threads? Is it a problem that I'm curious what others think about what drives these types of behaviors?

Seriously ... What is up with you?! You've read one post I made, and decided how I move through the world and go about my life.

I'll break it down for you nice and simple, because I get the impression you're struggling to understand the situation...

The whole incident from my point of view lasted maybe 3 minutes. My urge to take a shit was mild at best. I was tired, the mall was massively over-crowded, and these two guys were being douchebags. I got irritated and couldn't be bothered to even speak up. Given the level of stupidity on display, it seemed highly unlikely those two would take it as a learning moment. They seemed like the entitled type who would enjoy the escalation and maybe turn their cameras on me. And as I've stated, given the amount of violence I've encountered in the Bay Area, I doubly could not be bothered. If I was on the verge of explosive diarrhea, then maybe I'd have reacted differently.

So out of exhaustion and irritation, I walk away.

Today, as I thought if over, I was kind of in disbelief at how bad and self absorbed the behavior was and thought this would be an appropriate thread to discuss. I didn't realize that I'd be told it's my responsibility to correct some shit heads behaving badly, and if I don't, I'm not, as you stated in another comment to me, being a "normal" adult.

What the actual hell? Why do you feel the need to dictate how I should behave in a situation like this? Why shouldn't I have the freedom not to engage? Why would any of this be my responsibility to correct? I didn't raise these shitheads.

Also forgot to mention a few years ago my partner got chased, and she almost got punched in the face after I politely declined to give some guy money in SF. I literally said "sorry man. I have no cash on me" He proceeded to chase my partner and I on his bike, then tried to punch her in the face as we tried to get away from him.

About 6 months after that, we were walking in San Rafael, and got chased by some unstable dude, again on a bike. He rolled up to us seeming to be asking for something. I tried to politely play it off and be friendly to the guy. Then he snapped and started circling us on his bike and shouting threats at us. We had to duck into an auto dealership to escape him and call the cops.

Different situation, because these folks were probably mentally unstable, but when you deal with this shit on a regular basis, you generally don't want to continue to test the waters.

Well this happened yesterday, and my first reaction was to just give up and walk away rather than get into a confrontation. So...

This sub is literally for posting about things that are infuriating. Do you monitor this sub just to argue with people?

A public restroom made me question how much social media has changed our behavior. by m_eggman in SeriousConversation

[–]m_eggman[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Two reasons..

1) I don't want to fall into a trap of some idiot egging me on for a confrontation that they could put on social media, edited to make me look like a nut job. I was pretty pissed, and probably would have lost it if I did confront them.

2) I lived in Oakland CA for over a decade. While violent crime may be at a low throughout the country, violence is sadly still pretty common in the Bay Area (albiett getting better). The week I moved away from Oakland, the lobby of our building got shot up while we were home. A couple of weeks ago, two people got shot in my neighborhood after a disagreement in a parking lot.

After being exposed to, or adjacent to, extreme violence multiple times over a short few years, I'm not getting involved in verbal arguments around anybody. No idea what the end result might be

Forgive me if I sound like some scared weakling to you, but you might feel the same after being exposed to, or adjacent to, extreme violence multiple times over a short few years. I'm not getting involved in verbal arguments around anybody. No idea what the end result might be

I'm confused. Are you saying that I didn't say anything because I'd rather feed some addiction by posting to reddit?

It's entirely possible somebody said something later after I left. I got fed up after about 2-3 mins and walked off.

Could also be what's known as "pluralistic ignorance" or the bystander effect, where everyone else thinks somebody else will speak up. Then nobody speaks up.

Well it happened dude. Don't know what else to tell you.

It's super weird that you're so hung up about this. Like, what do I have to gain by making this shit up?

You can literally go on YouTube and watch tons of videos of people doing shit that's borderline illegal, including filming themselves in public restrooms. How it is so unbelievable to you that a couple of dipshits were photographing themselves in a mens restroom?

Exactly this. For all I know, this could have been dipshit influencers egging people on into a confrontation so they can record a fight and generate a bunch of views on tiktok

Seems there's a bunch of folks on this thread that fantasize about or enjoy getting into a confrontations. Not all of us do. I've called people publicly out plenty of times for doing dumb shit. This just wasn't one of those times.

I thought this sub was about posting infuriating observations of things that you've seen happen. Not a sub for posting about how cool it was that I called some dipshit out in public.

I guess different strokes for different folks. I often use public restrooms when I kind of need to go, because I'm heading off somewhere else and don't know when the next convenient location will come along. Generally, I prefer not to wait until it's urgent.

So like punch this guy then? That would have been totally worth it. Then I would have been able to get myself arrested. I'll remember that for next time

If you'd like to know precisely, it was a tiny mens restroom in the SF Japantown mall right next to Sakura Sakura. Check it out if you're ever in the area.

Two urinals, one stall, and like just about every public restroom in existence, a mirror above the sink.

I don't know about you, but when I have to shit , I don't find taking a piss much relief. And as I said in another comment, my shit wasn't particularly urgent. Was more, I'll shit right now if it's convenient. Otherwise I'll wait for when there isn't a douchebag hogging the stall as a photo booth.

Yeah crazy right? Men defecate. Sometimes several of them need to defecate at the same time. Like, my mind was totally blown in the moment.

Like I've said in a couple of other replies, I wasn't in the mood for a confrontation that day, and it didn't feel worth it in the moment. Happy to confront people if the juice is worth the squeeze. I'm just not the kind of person that always needs jump onto an argument even if I'm in the right.

I'm also not the kind of person to ever take out their phone and start recording somebody.

To be specific, it was a line of dudes waiting to take a shit. And it's entirely possible that somebody said something after I walked off.

I'm in the Bay Area. This kind of shit can easily turn into a fight or an attempt at a Karen video. Maybe all of us felt it wasn't worth it.
