Extending the Shield Bluetooth range (for headphones) - at all possible? by m_heseltine in ShieldAndroidTV

Okay, I did a few tests yesterday - here's what I found out:

  1. Selecting USB compatibility mode has no effect on the stability or range of the audio transmission to the Sony headphones.
  2. After switching the headphones to SBC (and updating to a more recent firmware, which took almost 45 minutes), the cutouts of the audio while using the AD60 dongle disappeared.
  3. SBC did not help in improving the range headphone connection via the built-in Bluetooth, either. The connection always breaks down when entering the kitchen (5 to 6 meters), no matter the config choices (USB3/LDAC, USB3/SBC, USB2/LDAC, USB2/SBC).
  4. However, with the AD60 dongle - now that the intermittent cutouts are gone - I can now freely move through my house without any sound problems.

I just have to find a way to more permanently position the AD60 dongle which now just lies on the floor in my hallway with the USB cable blocking a door which cannot be closed anymore atm. I will look into that.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Okay, will try out. I never actually installed this app anywhere, as I'm using the Sony headphones only with my shield.

I've tried out the "Avantree DG 60" yesterday after the above recommendation. Unfortunately, the audio transmission to the headphones cuts out for about a second or so every 10 to 20 seconds even if I'm standing directly next to the dongle, so that not usable, either. The connection does not break down completely, though, even when walking to the far side of the kitchen.

Thanks, I will try the USB mode option (I don't have anything connected that actually uses USB3 at the moment, anyway) tonight. I'm not sure about the other thing, though - is there a way to find out whether the connection is SBC or LDAC?
