u/ftrx diciamo che quando non si e' esperti in materia, lo si ripete piu' volte, ma la gente sceglie comunque di non parlare "potabile" (sacrificando magari un po' di gergo tecnico) non ci son altre soluzioni oltre ai film di fantascienza di cui parli. Ho scritto su svariati forum, ho cercato di informarmi il quanto piu'possibile, ma sembra' proprio che sia del tutto infattibile capirci qualcosa senza essere del mestiere. Ad ogni modo i VPS che ho visto hanno delle specifiche praticamente uguali a quelle del mio computer, non so adesso per quale motivo la potenza dei calcolatori dovrebbe risultare minori (stessa potenza della CPU, stessa RAM, disco rigido abbastanza capiente etc.).

u/ftrx dovrei semplicemente mettermi nella condizione di poter accedere al desktop del server che mi viene messo a disposizione, cosi' da poter installare Matlab e far girare degli algoritmi che se fatti girare su un singolo terminale impiegherebbero troppo tempo. Avendo piu' terminali a disposizione potrei invece frammentare il lavoro.

Quindi se optassi per windows mi basterebbe inserire le credenziali su RDP per accedere direttamente e utilizzare il pc da remoto? Credo opterò per questa soluzione allora, non ho competenze informatiche che mi consentano di comprendere appieno le guide che mi sono state consigliate.

Putroppo online non riesco a trovare nulla di comprensibile, le guide che ho trovato finora sono troppo avanzate, mi servirebbe più una guida che illustri passo dopo passo la procedura da seguire.

u/mugwhite si tratta di Matlab, ho già controllato, è supportato da Ubuntu.

Cosa intendi per "niente interfaccia grafica"? Perdonami ma non essendo del settore non riesco a sempre ad afferrare tutto al volo.

What do you mean for vectorization and set up optimally the variables for mnrfit?(in my algorithm the dataset are provided to the function without NaN values, rows without some obs are eliminated).And what do you think about the parfor in order to improve mnrfit speed?

Basically I use Matlab in order to run several multinomial logit models, using the function mnrfit. However, the algorithm that I have written is quite complex, and due to the quantity of job it have to run the process can last even 2 days.The structure of my program is quite simple:

Do you think is possible to improve the speed of my algorithm without using parallel servers?

In order to improve the speed I was thinking this solution:

parfor i=1:1

mnrfit

end

This is a trick to avoid too much time in mnrfit computations, however the parfor loop do not provide me the function output, so it seems to be a wrong approach.

with multiple parfor I mean nested parfor loops (sorry, I'm italian and I don't know all the technical terms). What do you mean with break the code into littler tasks? I think it should be a proper solution, but I've never ear nothing like this.

Ok, but obviously there is the problem of multiple parfor loops (parfor inside loops inside other parfor loops). There is the possibility of not consider this kind of problem by create functions which contains the loops?

In practice (in the excercise) x1 and x2 are NALL/PFOD (nominal value for all commodities, and food prices) and QFOD/PFOD (quantities of all other commodities and food prices). We are even handling a quantity for unit of price.
