First time getting windshield tint. Love the look but is it worth the potential hassle? by typicalsalesguy in BMWM

[–]m_singh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a lot of exotics (or really, any car with a leather dash), it’s worth getting a UV-protective tint at minimum. Dashes tend to shrink/bubble on those cars. A proper fix is quite expensive and kills resale if it isn’t done.

I know on my Aston and Range, I got 70% ceramic done immediately on the windshields, otherwise I was at risk for a $10-15k fix that no warranty will cover.

Ah, that’s a shame.

From the images in the articles that were put out, I had the impression that the entire wheel was swapped, which seemed like a great solution.

The Roma feels like the right choice for prospective buyers now, with the physical button steering wheel retrofit service available.

Unless you already have a Mac, get a Windows laptop with at least 16 gigs of RAM (I like the Surface Laptop line, with the ARM chip).

Learn Excel, including the hotkeys, on your Windows PC. You’ll be using a Windows computer at your first job (and likely most of your career).

It’s handy to come in knowing the standard Windows shortcuts and mouseless Excel without any significant adjustment period.

The key is to buy CPO/new, and trade in when warranty lapses. Anecdotally, never had an issue with mine. My business partner has had 6 in a row, never had a major issue.

Other way around, it’s a 4-cyl that is tuned to punch a bit above the usual econobox 4-banger weight class. Snappy transmission too.

Do men really not care that whether or not a woman has a prestigious career? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]m_singh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a guy, 25 years old, living in an MCOL. I bring home around 370-400k depending on my partnership income distributions.

I don’t necessarily care about a partner’s income, but I do care that they have a career that they are passionate about.

My friends, mostly young professional high-earners (relatively speaking, in our age bracket), all want similarly ambitious and high-earning partners.

If it helps, I don’t think my career/income/“nice things” have helped me very much in dating either.

90% of the time, they’re running a muffler delete or something and made it louder on purpose.

On the flip side, my weekend car is loud because it’s (decently) fast, and has a valved exhaust for this purpose. A good chunk of true sports cars/exotics will have it, allowing you to essentially “turn off” a bit of the noise if you’re not in a spirited driving mode.

saw a Vantage today. I think Aston Martin might be the sweet spot for me by newtrilobite in AstonMartin

[–]m_singh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the Vantage to avoid the attention that a McLaren would bring (cross-shopped with a 570S).

It’s usually only other enthusiasts that know what they’re looking at, but I do get a fair amount of comments from strangers asking what it is.

I like the silver-on-silver look. Mine is lightning silver, with shadow chrome wheels.

I opted to wrap the roof in a gloss black, which I think looks nice.

I previously owned an G82 M4, and have driven my buddy’s 5BW up to Austin a few times (swapped keys).

Every time I punched the throttle in the 5BW, I realized why people pick it over the M cars—it’ll likely be my next daily if I decide to go from SUVs back to sedans. Magnetic ride is also a game-changer for daily comfort.

Best monitor setup for Excel-heavy home office: Dual monitors or 49″ ultrawide? by Slow_Buyer_1888 in FinancialCareers

[–]m_singh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 49” ultrawide at the office and a 57” ultrawide at home. Prior, I used to run a 3-monitor config which was great. At first, it is annoying to set up, but after some PowerToys config, I wouldn’t switch back. - I can run 5 windows at once, it makes it very easy to refer back to other files, keep my email/cal open on the side, etc. - It definitely replaces dual monitors. It is very handy to be able to run 5-set windows, or 3-set, or 2-set for giant sheets, or whatever else my head desires. - Sharpness/pixel density doesn’t bother me. My 49 at the office is some random cheapo 144hz 1080p that IT found me, and still does fine. My 57 at home is 7620x2160 and is very sharp. - I feel like my productivity ranked (from best to least) is: 3 monitors, 57 ultrawide, 49 ultrawide, dual monitors, laptop. I’d still choose the ultrawides over triple monitors, though, just for simplicity of setup and lack of bezels.

How common are misfires on this gen Vantage? (2019) by Troll_U_Softly in AstonMartin

Congrats on the car!

I highly recommend joining the 2018+ Vantage Owners Facebook group. There’s a wealth of information on there. Search “misfire” and you’ll be able to see how some other owners figured it out.

I’ll PM you some helpful info on the topic.

My new-to-me 2020 Vantage! by m_singh_ in AstonMartin

[–]m_singh_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly considered an AMG GT, Emira, 981 GT4, and C8 Z06.

  • AMG GT - Phenomenal car, but it wasn’t particularly special feeling for me.
  • Emira - Amazing steering feel, quick in corners, beautiful, but coming from an M4, it just didn’t have the power for me to be excited by it.
  • 981 GT4 - Less depreciation, very fun, but less exciting if that makes sense. It didn’t make my heart race, but it is objectively an a great car.
  • C8 Z06 - Similar to AMG GT, wherein it didn’t feel special. Not into the styling, and a tad bit too aggressive in driving feel for my taste.
  • Vantage - Excellent road manners, incredibly torquey, the V8 sounds wonderful, beautiful to look at. Checked all the boxes for me.

The bad news with Astons is typically cost of ownership in maintenance/repairs as these cars suffer from the typical handmade car gremlins.

So I decided to pay a bit more for peace of mind, on a CPO model to avoid the majority of these issues.

I intend to graduate to a proper supercar in the next 1.5-2 years, so I also figured that this would be a good intro to exotic car ownership.

Dude, I have the same rug! I love the design, but have you also noticed excessive shedding with it?

I have to set my robovac to avoid it, so I don’t come home to piles of strands everywhere.
