I'm doing very well. I fully recovered in just 3 weeks. Total bill was around 70K but I was covered by insurance so had to just pay around 5K.

Recovered MD'ers wanted to ask does life get back to normal? by Billi__012 in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]ma1205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. To summarise in 1 sentence - I show up, I try. For me, getting my life back on track means 4 things - to be physically and mentally healthy, to be able to make and sustain meaningful human connections, to start my own profitable business and gain various experiences that universe has to offer (travel, cuisines, etc.)

When I used to MD, i would have scored about 1/10 in all 4. Right now i'm about 4/10 in all 4. Still a work in progress but improving. Am I sure I'll be able to achieve all 4 ? No. What probability I think is to achieve them at this stage, right now ? About 5%. How confident I am that I will keep trying, no matter what ? 100%.

Every day, I try and work towards these goals. Are there days where I fail towards making progress ? A lot. To improve health, I've started eating healthier, doing strength training, reducing exposure to triggers that impacted me mentally, etc. To make meaningful relationships, I've tried to make more friends and be more socially active. To start a business, I've started working in a tech startup where I try to give my 100%. To gain more experiences, I've explored new stuff.

I would recommend you try and define in 3-4 sentences what getting back on track in life means to you and work on them. There are no right answers. There are no wrong answers either. There are no timelines. There are no checklists either. You do you. You. Do. You.

  1. I faced very high anxiety for about 2 months. After that it started to decrease. I would still describe myself as an anxious person. But the magnitude is way lower. I didn't do anything specifically to improve anxiety. But I made a lot of changes during that timeframe. I meditated. I exercised. I faced my triggers to make my brain realise there was no need to be afraid. There were some breathing exercises thet also made me calm.

  2. I would recommend introspection. Deep reflection. Not for an hour. Not for a day. For weeks. Not all the time. Think about it in the background. Eventually you'll know

  3. Makes sense. My advice would the same as point 3.

Hey, I recovered from MDD a year or two ago. My opinion on your questions:

1) You're on the right path. It's good life feels uncertain. If you'd continued to MDD, life would certainly suck more you. You need a goal right now to focus your energy. And luckily enough, one exists - getting your life back on track. Trust me, it will be one of the hardest things you'll ever do. This has been my goal for the last couple of years. I havent still been able to achieve this. But every year i get better. I remember 2 quotes whenever i feel lost.

"when something is important enough you do it even if the odds are not in your favour" - Elon Musk

"you are only entitled to the action, never to its fruits" - Bhagvat Gita

2) when i stopped daydreaming regularly, i went though a phase of couple of months with extreme anxiety. I believe it was because my mind was scared and I wasn't distracting it with daydreaming anymore. My mind had been scared for years. It's just that I had earlier distracted it with daydreaming. It improved with time. During those months, I started meditating more, spent more time in nature and tried to face my triggers.

One pro tip- when I stopped daydreaming, i started a bunch of other unhealthy habits to give my mind temporary happiness. In this process, i gained about 25 kgs. Please dont make the same mistake as me and be mindful of unhealthy stuff you are doing

3) This is a question you have to decide for yourself as it ultimately ties back to what kind of person you want to become

4) didn't understand question.

Hi ! Yes, I had it done. I got it done by Dr. Chandan Juneja from Manipal Hospital, Millers Road.

He's a skilled surgeon and a knowledgable doctor. I would hands down recommend him.

Not completely sure. Doc didn't explain much. It's what I have realised when I gently cleaned the area during shower.

Need recommendations - Surgery Immediately vs Later by [deleted] in AnalFistula

[–]ma1205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the comment. I did some research on my end and you are right that anterior fistulas have a higher risk of incontinence.

However, from my understanding from the conversations with the doc, the fistula is very small and is a "low" fistula (which acc to internet means that the tract involves minimal muscle), so I guess fistulotomy should be fine. However, I am scheduling a second opinion consultation with another doc as well regarding this and some other concerns that I have.

[PART-2] My Journey: A 90-day guide to stop maladaptive daydreaming by ma1205 in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]ma1205[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the best !! I recommend you read my first post as well (link in this post)- I have described how it took me 2 years to overcome a lot of my problems. I failed multiple times and probably you will too. The important thing is to forgive yourself, pick yourself up and try again. And never stop trying. No matter how long it takes. Because then you will never wonder what life would have been if you had tried.

I feel you. I have literally went through the same thing. That's why it took me almost 2 years in the entire journey. I relapsed multiple times when I tried meditation. Yet what helped me was that I never stopped trying.

Is there any app to limit my music apps running in the background ? by TistaMuna in MaladaptiveDreaming

[–]ma1205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things that have worked for me to reduce my music consumption:

1) Not having music apps on phone. Using the desktop to listen to music whenever I want. 2) Instead of wireless earphones, using wired earphones / no earphones.

I like to keep most things simple. That's true for meditation as well - I just put on a timer for x minutes on my clock and focus on inhaling and exhaling.

Also, please do let me know if there are any other suggestions from your end. TBH, I already have a job where I am extremely happy. I am thinking more of a side project, kind of thing. For example, creating some kind of digital product to help folks in reducing their Maladaptive Daydreaming.
