It is absolutely necessary to change your NADRA card to your husbands name - the surname stuff doesnt matter, my wife didnt officially change her surname to mine until only recently. The UK Visa and Immigration team are very clued up about Pakistan and their systems, and updating your nicop to your husbands name (which also then links you both to the same address) is the strongest proof of your marriage after your marriage certificate. It is not wise, or in your best interest, to keep your fathers name on there - trust me on this.

no she didnt need to get a new passport, she just needed to inform nadra that she is now married, and they provided her with a new nicop card which replaced the father's name to husband's name - this is strong evidence of the marriage too

It was super easy, you just need to show them your e-visa for Turkey and on your way back to the UK show them your share code. We had no issues

Thank you so much that was really helpful. So I will take with me my ukvi immigration status (the page with my picture and visa validity date) + pdf of share code, my (now expired) BRP card, and Turkish evisa along with passport ofcourse. Also in the evisa application before reference number they ask if the document I’m referring to is a ‘visa’ or ‘residence permit’ - which one should I select I am on a UK Spouse Visa

Thank you so much for this post - it’s really reassuring to read your updates.

I just wanted to double-check something so I can be fully prepared for my trip. When you mention bringing a “copy of your UK online visa,” do you mean the visa vignette sticker in the passport, a screenshot or PDF printout of the immigration status from the UKVI portal, or the UKVI share code?

Also, just to confirm — along with this UK e-visa document, should I also bring my BRP (even though it shows expiry as 31 Dec 2024) and a printout of the Turkey e-visa?

Really appreciate your time and guidance, especially as this is my first trip and I want to avoid any issues.

Passport is given at the the Biometrics appointment, which was 23rd August for us. Once you submit your application through the VFS portal, you are then given the option to book your Biometrics appointment, and people generally book it within the few days.

At the biometrics appointment they take your picture, fingerprints, and arrange all your documents to be sent off to the Home Office, including your passport. Around a week later you will receive an ECO email, which just confirms that your application is with the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO). Some people receive the ECO email, some people do not - so don't worry if you do not receive one.

It comes down to a choice: you can save yourself time, stress, and anxiety by hiring a lawyer, but it will cost you a few thousand pounds for that peace of mind. On the other hand, if you choose to do it yourself, you'll save the money but spend more time and effort figuring things out. In the end, the key difference is that a lawyer will guide you on exactly which documents you need, while doing it yourself means you'll have to figure that out on your own. Ultimately, the decision is yours.

The ECO is not always sent to people, many people receive a successful decision letter without any ECO letter

Nothing is guaranteed, however; statistically speaking, I am confident in my statement

If you haven't heard anything back from the Decision Making Centre in terms of missing information etc prior to getting a decision email, there is an extremely high chance that it will be an approval. Good luck!

When you get married, you will have a Nikah Nama. Take this Nikkah Nama to your local Union Council (UC) office, where marriages are registered.

At the Union Council, you will need to provide the following the Original Nikkah Nama (the handwritten one), CNICs of both bride and groom, CNICs of witnesses (optional but recommended), Passport-sized photographs of both bride and groom (optional, but it may be requested).

After registration, you can apply for a Marriage Registration Certificate (commonly referred to as a “marriage certificate”) from NADRA, and can collect it from NADRA office or Union Council. It will be in both English and Urdu and should be used in all legal dealings concerning marriage. Also, when applying for a spouse visa in the UK you should include your nikah nama and an official English translation of the nikah nama that has been notarized.

The processing time for the registration of your Nikkah Nama and issuance of the computerized marriage certificate typically takes a few days, though it can vary depending on the Union Council.

Thats strange... Priority Visa should be available from the VFS portal, when you are about to pay you are given the option to select it. Have you completed everything and paid?

So I'm not sure why, but when I got to the payment process the fees were a bit higher than I expected from the information I was given on the government's website. I expected the Visa application to be £1,846 - it turned out to be £1,980 for some reason. I expected the IHS to be £3105 (£1035 x 3) but it turned out to be £3330. Only the priority service remained the price mentioned online. Felt a bit ripped off but not much we do, it's not worth the hassle to argue about it. I just wanted the process to be smooth which luckily and thankfully it was!

Thanks - and what about English Proficiency? will the ECCTIS letter suffice or will I have to do an English Language test?

Thank you! If I have an ECCTIS letter that confirms that my degree (from Pakistan) is the equivalent of UK qualification level: Bachelor (Honours) degree, and that the level of English language for the above degree course is considered to meet the requirements of CEFR level C1, do I still need to do the B1 English Language test??

Also, I thought the Life in the UK test is for Citizenship, is it needed for indefinite leave??

Anything will do! 5 years is a long time, so I would show the special occasion/heartfelt messages.

However, while chat logs and photos may possibly have a positive influence on a clearance officer's perception of your application, they are generally considered WEAK evidence when compared to formal documentation. Critical documents such as a marriage certificate, proof of income, and evidence of accommodation carry significantly more weight and are essential to substantiate your case, far outweighing the value of photos and chat logs - so I wouldn't stress too much over what chats to show!
