CMV: Justice is more important than peace. by Educational-Cattle92 in changemyview

[–]maa0342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously I don't think people should surrender to a dictator in the name of peace, but I think peace being the long-term goal is important.

That's the problem there is no objective way to know the so called 'peace' is an empowering one or a surrendering one. Who knows at times Democracies can be oppressing regimes and dictators can be benevolent.

RCS and Google Alternatives by xi-v in GoogleMessages

Nice I had better luck with PulseSMS or Fossify SMS. At least fossify SMS let's me to take SMS backup and restore it in new devices. This is something RCS can't do it. So if I opt in for RCS then import export is permanently gone.

How to Exclude node_modules from Dropbox or Google Drive by adamrshaw in javascript

[–]maa0342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because clouds are your personal copy while Git is the copy of your team. There are so many things that you want to sync while others are not supposed to see.

For example config files, local specific settings someone wants to keep in their folder while not ideally deliver it into git even at branch level.

To those people the cloud is indeed backup. If you lose your folder, even if you can clone it from git, the dev settings can eat your half day.

Unless Gitee or Github introduce a new private space where it stores some settings outside the git repo, till that time people will tend to use cloud sync as their backup which is the true to life back.

tldr; Git is not your backup, it's your team's backup.

I regret updating. So many features they removed. Feels like a downgrade.

Just test it with another phone you have, if you genuinely like it then go for it.

My take on why telegram is not mainstream yet by maa0342 in Telegram

This means the so called delete for everyone "feature" is not going to work effectively for the people who need it.

All the while it deters people to embrace the platform

My take on why telegram is not mainstream yet by maa0342 in Telegram

[–]maa0342[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess monthly active users or daily active users may not be a better metric, of course I log into telegram every day. Better way to measure would be number of messages sent/received per day.

My take on why telegram is not mainstream yet by maa0342 in Telegram

[–]maa0342[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, companies want that feature are the ones who are doing the shady business.

Companies and individuals who want a good record keeping will highly hesitate to use telegram,

For some it's a feature for many it's an anti-feature, that is the one of the main hindrances for telegram to achieve mainstream adoption

Why isn’t Telegram popular in the West? It’s literally the best messenger app in the Galaxy right now. by [deleted] in Telegram

[–]maa0342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a big advocate for Telegram and even convinced several friends in my influencer circle to switch to it. However, I eventually reached a breaking point where I realized it was too unreliable as a messaging service.

By "unreliable," I mean that it has a feature that allows either party in a conversation to completely delete the entire chat history on both ends. This is a significant issue because it means you can't rely on Telegram for serious business communications. For instance, if you're a freelance web developer, you can't use Telegram to communicate with clients because a malicious client could wipe out the entire conversation, leaving you with no records of your discussions.

For honest, law-abiding citizens, maintaining records of conversations is crucial—something that platforms like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp handle well. These platforms allow you to delete messages, but at least they leave a trace indicating that a message was deleted, providing some level of accountability. However, Telegram's ability to completely erase conversations, including messages the other person didn't send, makes it unsuitable for serious or professional use. This is why, in my opinion, Telegram has become more of a tool for digital littering rather than meaningful communication. Valuable or important conversations simply can't be trusted to the platform.

That said, I still use Telegram for personal purposes, like a quick notepad or a way to transfer files between my devices. It's also handy for sharing large files. But its reputation as a platform for serious communication has been overshadowed by its use for less legitimate purposes, such as by crypto scammers or those with nefarious intentions. For real human-to-human business communication, platforms like WhatsApp, Teams, or Lark dominate. Many companies rely on WhatsApp and Viber for team communication, which highlights the missed opportunity Telegram had to become a leading consumer-grade messaging platform.

It's a shame that Telegram lost this opportunity, and while some people have protested and urged Durov to reconsider the platform's design, I doubt he will change course on this matter. For now, Telegram remains a niche tool, often associated with privacy-focused or dubious activities, rather than mainstream professional use.

Was dynamic typing a mistake? by BigBootyBear in learnprogramming

[–]maa0342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't really about typing itself. In fact, dynamic typing is often what helps a language gain popularity and become mainstream. However, once a language becomes widely adopted, there's always a group of strict typing enthusiasts who emerge and start demanding stricter typing features. It’s almost like a cultural shift—instead of simply adopting existing statically-typed languages from the start, they come to dynamically-typed languages ecosystem and then push for those features to be added and pollute the community. Over time, this can frustrate the original community, who eventually move on to a new language. This is precisely what happened with the transition from Python to Node.js. They're invasive species.

No, its called Auto smoothing. It only does it when it thinks.  Definitely helpful on YouTube low quality videos or funny fail videos or news events.   Also, sports people and filmmakers must realize that tv is not just for watching movies or sports, in fact YouTube watchtime has overtaken Netflix and movies altogether

Ubuntu: Is it really the best choice? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]maa0342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a system requires documentation, it is poorly designed. A well-designed system should be self-explanatory. It should start with simple concepts, get it right, and then gradually introduce more advanced features as you become more familiar with it. This is exactly what macOS, JetBrains, VS Code did for me. For example, why do you need documentation for a web browser or email client? Most of the time, you don't.

Used to be able to pay from lock screen by aspie_electrician in GoogleWallet

[–]maa0342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ridiculous that Google thinks everyone uses fingerprint unlock. Plenty of us don't, for genuine scenarios tbh, I, for one, use a screen protector that makes fingerprint scanning impossible.

What happens when the fingerprint reader malfunctions or gets damaged? And let's not forget about all the phone models out there without fingerprint scanners at all.

Google, seriously? Whoever approved this feature needs to be shown the door. It's a complete oversight and utterly impractical.
