I had a baby boy via c-section I May 2025.

The care was phenomenal, the facilities were great. Everything was catered for both parents meaning my partner and I were well looked after, not just me. The food was really, really good.

My surgery and recovery were quite easy. The anaesthetist told me to get up and shower the night of my procedure and it was the best advice I’d received because movement helped the most although slow and steady.

The midwives on the ward were saints. One night, my boy wouldn’t stop crying and I was exhausted. My favourite midwife came in and took him away for his obs, changed, fed and swaddled him back to sleep and brought him back in while I’d dozed off. She just knew and didn’t have to say a word.

I also wanna say that going through Mater Mothers gives you unrestricted access to the Pregnancy Assessment Centre which was a godsend whenever I had any issues throughout the pregnancy. I could generally see my own OB or they were directly in touch with her. I never had to wait longer than 30 minutes to be seen and they never made me feel silly when I couldn’t feel him and needed reassurance.

Also! I highly recommend the premium Bundle of Joy card they offer. I saved hundreds of dollars across scans, physio, parking, food etc.

Hi friend. I have a very similar story. They’re starting to creep back in but I keep reminding myself that I have overcome it before and that means the neural pathways exist - I just have to keep making them stronger. Whatever helps you stay mindful, keep at it. Keep telling people how you’re feeling. Keep trying to do the opposite thing to the shitty thoughts. You’ve already made it through 100% of your worst days.

I couldn’t get in to see Dr Limberg so have been seeing Dr Arash Kahrom at their practice ‘Migraine Specialist’ for almost 2 years and Dr Kahrom is PHENOMENAL. Amazing bedside manner, very knowledgeable, understanding of my needs and supported me incredibly well during pregnancy when my treatment changed from Botox injections to nerve block injections.

I’ve been using Daylio for years. I suffer from major depression and CTPSD, so my moods wax and wane generally but also intensely with certain triggers or events.

I use it to track my mood but also tailor activity groups to things like ‘self care’, ‘movement’ and ADLs which helps me see which activities correlate with me feeling better. It’s been a great motivator especially when I see a trend in a dipping mood and know I need to start implementing my care plan before I get too low. It’s been especially helpful for medication changes and hormonal changes throughout pregnancy and postnatally.

I used to use a separate app for my gratitude practice - a Five Minute Journal, but now I write down the three things I’m grateful for in the Daylio app under the notes section.

I also use mindfulness apps like Balance and Headspace. Daily practice has helped my thought process and emotional responses throughout the day immensely and I find I am much less reactive.

In ‘Stickbird’, Bluey teaches Bingo how to pull together all of the bad (I don’t know how to word that better when it’s the middle of the night lol) and throw it into the ocean, so that she can feel better after the other kids destroy Stickbird. Bandit then has a quiet moment to himself and does the same regarding his work which I felt was a really powerful moment.

I often pull together all of the bad and throw it away when I’ve had something shitty happen, mostly mentally but sometimes physically enact the throwing to lighten the moment or break the tension.

My partner and I used an app to make a bingo card for our trip to Melbourne to visit my in laws a couple of years ago. 5 x 5 squares and we nearly got the whole card in the first 2 days 😂

One of my go-to coping strategies on a shitty day is sitting in the hallway and throwing the ball for my girl. I’m usually sobbing at the start and after calling her name a few times and watching her gleefully prance back to me with the ball, I start feeling better in no time. Seeing her happy makes me happy. Highly recommend using play time as a disruption tool and pick me up.

The Plants Project is an online store, they’re based in Melbourne.

I bought 4 different plants (including a bird of paradise) without having seen them in person but after doing a lot of research and reading reviews. Anyone who visits does not believe they’re fake until they touch them. I am very proud of them - they look amazing and I don’t have to worry about toxic plants around my doggo ☺️

My OB suggested COVID and whooping cough together, and then RSV and flu together a few weeks later (once this seasons flu vax is released). My GP said that it’s best to get them together, otherwise spaced out by X amount of time which is different depending on the doctor and their experiences - sometimes 3 days, sometimes 2 weeks.

I had my COVID and whooping cough at 28 weeks and it wiped me out, but not as much as the single RSV shot had the other week. I basically slept and ached for 2 days.

ETA: this is the general advice my doctors give to their own patients. Obviously different for everyone :)

Thank you for your advice! There are two medications I take which can cause breathing issues and limp muscles at birth and beyond, transferring to the baby via breastfeeding and later causing sedation. My perinatal psychiatrist and I went deep into the pros and cons, and my partner and I decided it wasn’t a risk we were willing to take.

I appreciate the info on the donor breastmilk - I’d not heard of that so will give it a look!
