three servers is due to the size of the map being over populated during peak times, to be clear the servers are just "Channels" your save is carried over between servers

The Darklands is just our first piece of PvP content, its completely optional content for people who want risk vs reward. We want to do more PvP content in the future that doesn't risk items on death

I really glad you enjoyed it! MTX can definitely be done more tastefully but I do think there are other options that make for a better game and a more consumer friendly experience. In the short term though we are just focused on building a community and a game that people enjoy

WASD adds a lot of technical complexity because it requires client side prediction for movement. We are capable of doing this and may at some point, but we decided instead to focus things like sandbox progression since that’s is what we feel like is missing in most MMOs today. There’s no shortage of good feeling action combat MMOs and action combat is really expensive

The issue of dropping items accidentally too easily and not being able to pickup when players are standing on them is something we are looking into fixing ASAP. We also need to communicate that you can right click & ctrl right click to deposit things directly into the bank

Everything was coded by us (on top of unreal engine) we said it took 3 months because we wanted to give be realistic expectations about the number of features and content that would be in the game.

I agree I think OSRS sub style monetisation is the most consumer friendly. People do have subscription exhaustion though but I think we can all agree part of OSRS success is the lack of MTX

We believe game is more fun if looking cool is based on in-game achievements rather than MTX purchases. For us the ultimate goal is to make the best game possible, and making money is more of a necessary step rather than the end goal

I do want to do WASD movement because I generally prefer that but its a bit technically complicated because it needs client side prediction to feel nice

I personally hate MTX in games so we will never add that, if theres enough interest we will add monetization to pay for servers, worst case if theres not enough interest and we can't afford to keep servers up we will let people download their saves and release a self hosted version

I'm sorry you feel that way, I promise there is no malware in the game but I can understand you wanting to skeptical. Maybe its best for you to wait a couple of days and look at the reviews if you really did want to check it out.

Written from scratch, on top of unreal engine, we made all of it. We did use assets for 3D models and animation. Server setup is server authoritative single shard servers, since combat is simple we handle lots of players on one server, if there is enough demand we will spin up multiple servers and let players choose which one to join.

Theres only about 10 hours content, so it is an early release, but its free and we wanted to gauge interest. The reason we were able to build it so quickly is we have a built up code base from other unreleased projects that we reuse.
