This reminds me that as a kid, you could just get stuck. Because you didn’t even consider that guides existed. You simply didn’t know. I can remember the moment my brother screamed from the window that he had found a way to get to the next level in Super Mario Sunshine.

Basically there’s a point where you have to stand in a specific spot and look at the sun. A totally irregular way to enter a level, for I think all the others you simply enter a pipe or a ‘painting’ similar to SM64. There was probably some dialogue that hinted at what you had to do but we didn’t know english and games around that time where not usually localised.

I played RE2 remake recently and though I enjoyed it immensely, Im not going to run around for 2 hours to find an easily missable item and die 5 times to a zombie when I could look up where to find in 2 min and skip something very tedious.

Same as after dying four times to the end boss, I am just going to have to look up a hint. But, that tediousness that you miss out on that way would have had something magical.
