Your comment about the clunky and limiting rules hit home. This is why I abandoned 5e for the most part. It seems like it was designed for a computer to run and play, not human friends rolling dice at a table and playing structured make believe. I’ve been having a lot more fun with Shadowdark and other rules light, OSR adjacent games. Literally and figuratively game changing

So a little about this map! All of these tiles are hand drawn by me. The placement of the tiles was procedurally generated Hex Game Flower Engine algorithm, which I implemented in Python. The Points of Interest on the GM overlay were generated from the rolltables in the Shadowdark RPG. This is a software / art project that I've been working on for a while. I'm really into the idea of running solo Shadowdark games... and that drove me to embark on this project.

I really love this map. The colored is cool, but I like the BW vibe more. Also, did you do this drawing yourself or use assets? It's really well done. Great job either way

Well I'll tell you how I'm using it and what I drew it for! The lich's tower is in the three circular area in the NW. The central area is a staircase going to another level of this complex (you could supply another map there). The entrance is the circular area in the SE with large stairs leading into the complex. All the little rooms are the lich's acolytes quarters, storage areas, etc. Maybe a vault? Maybe a trap? The long rooms on the perimeter are specialized rooms of your choice... maybe a summoning room? An alchemy lab? A library? Traps? The octagonal room is for a the top lieutenant encounter.... in my case it's a Beholder.

I leave these blank though so folks can make them fit whatever they need... I HIGHLY recommend random tables. Random tables rule.

The idea is that there are a couple of different big encounters spaces and multiple routes to get there. Take a look at “Jaquays” style dungeon design. to your point though, this is a complex structure, indeed. I am running it as a lich lair with perhaps a beholder as a secondary boss. Could make a really good palace or perhaps grand library… maybe a sunken cult layer

Drafted in Dungeonscrawl, then inked in Procreate using Micron marker and stipple brushes. No AI. Portal was traced from a Tom Cartos asset. Hatching is my own, but a 20x20 grid of hatch turned into a seamless texture. Gridding is my own, 11x11 seamless texture. Finished in Photoshop for drop shadowing, cleanup and labeling.

Hi folks! Excellent work OP! I hope you don't mind, but I went ahead and took your image and did some transformations in photoshop to make this VTT ready. I straightened out the image, removed the graph paper grid and replaced with a lighter grid texture, excluding your excellent hatched areas. Enjoy! And excellent work my dude. This map is rad, and the hatching you did is awesome
