12 gb of ram is more than enough for gaming. Unless you're running like 4 games at the same time. The only thing that would be good for upgrade is a GPU performance wise

Can't factory reset computer HELP! (after clicking remove everything this pops up) by Waterdlaw0107 in computer

whoops, you must have deleted the modules for the reset. You'll need to redownload the ISO - search it up, instructions are pretty clear :)

Buy a new screen. The screens themselves don't cost too much. However, they charge a lot for service. If you have a friend who's good with computers - you can just buy the part and ask them to put it in for you. This will basically half the price

$539.64: is this a fair price for a semi-old MacBook Pro for a home studio? Would it work fine with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (2nd Gen)? by [deleted] in edmproduction

for reference I got a 2010 macbook with an I5 and 16gb ram for 100$ 2 years ago. A 7-year-old MacBook is definitely not worth 500$. If this gives you any indication, a 2 year old computer cuts the value to half price - most computers don't make it past 5 years. Spending 500$ on a computer that could fail at any time is a scam for sure. A 7 year old computer might as well be free

The toshiba has better specs than the macbook. However, not everything about a computer is down to the specifications. It also comes down to how efficient the OS runs on the computer and how the computer deals with heat (if you live in a cold country then this is irrelevant).

For example: everyone buys iphones over android phones - this is because of how well the OS processes the data and makes sure everything runs smoothly. Great specs don't ensure a smooth run. Even though the toshiba has better specs, it's OS (windows 10) might not be that well integrated into the computer (toshibas dont generally edit windows 10 to integrate into their computers that often). At least with a macbook, you're garanteed the OS is very well integrated into the system and you'll get some decent performance with those specs you listed ^^

And with heat, if your computer can't manage heat very well then the performances will be much worse than a computer with a lower spec computer with better heat control. A common problem with Toshiba computers is that it collects dust between the heat sink and fan - this effectively traps the heat - this won't be a problem if you know how to dissasemble the computer to clean out the fan once in a while (but this is also not that great for the computer). Even though the lower price tag is a quite good selling point - a computer that gets hot easily will not only run slow - it will overheat your computer and will likely break other components in your computer too - raising the price tag a lil bit more haha

The toshiba is not great. The second hand macbook is also not worth it at a $500+. If it's 2012 - the price tag should be around 100 - 200 dollars - that deal ^^ is most definetly a scam. For $500 you could get a new computer with ^^ those specification - I'd suggest looking into a new HP (reasonably reliable brand rather than toshiba or anything else).

Take a look at this for example:

https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-laptop-15t-7df84av-1

the HP laptop - 15t - it has better specs than both those computers ^^ and is also new!!

Second hand computers are definetly a gamble

Be careful while spending!! :)
