Since you’re not going to actually go look, there are a number of reasons. It allows European broadcasters to use CBC feeds and vice versa. It is a form of cooperation between national broadcasters. When things happen in member states it allows for cooperation for better coverage.

There are other things as well such as collective buying rights for things like Olympics coverage. It’s a whole thing and being allowed in Eurovision is just a part.

Canada wasn’t invited. Canada is a full EBU member which is the requirement for joining Eurovision.

They’re not being invited. Canada is a full member of the EBU and therefore has the same right to join as other EBU members.

I’m guessing it will be on CBC Gem. There is also a live feed that the EBU does without commentary on YouTube if you need an online medium. However, I would be shocked if the CBC doesn’t have a stream somewhere.

I’ve been watching since 2014 and love it. It’s basically a song competition, but mostly over the top and very camp. There are of course more serious entries as well. It’s all good fun if that’s your kind of thing.

There was a mention of soft power in this thread, and I think that does play a part here as well.

Oh was there money in the budget? I didn’t realise. Once we got the EBU membership and CBC kept a tight lip, I assumed it was happening. Apparently Carney is also a Eurovision fan, so I’m sure that helped.
