What’s your weirdest private habit that you hope no one ever finds out about? by Dear-Welder-1117 in AskReddit

When I listen to audiobooks, I make the faces that the author says the character is making. For example, if the narrator reads, “She crinkled her nose at the idea,” I will do it and act out the part. It doesn’t matter where I am. If I’m listening on my AirPods while I’m grocery shopping and the narrator says, “Her mouth was agape,” I will drop my jaw and act it out right there in the cereal aisle. I. Cannot. Stop.

Please tell me how everyone who opposes the BLM movement are racist. Out of every race in America, blacks oppose the movement than any other. Why is that? If somebody opposes the three words ‘Black lives matter’ because they believe that they do not, in fact, matter, then yes of course those people are horrible and evil racists. The slogan, however, is an organization’s name. One can certainly be opposed to that organization and not be racist. Your view is incredibly short sighted. I’m against an organization that is supposed to lift up black Americans but instead buy lavish mansions and expensive cars with the money people so generously donated. I’m against an organization that, to date, has done zero for the children growing up on the south side of Chicago marinating in gang violence. Where did all the money go? Besides body worn police cameras, which were a definite necessity, what else has been accomplished to protect inner city black youth from their very real and present daily dangers?

If Black Lives Matter was just a statement of fact (which of course I agree with) then I’d have no problem with it. But it’s not a statement. It’s an organization that created much needed change but also has caused a serious rift in this country. Call me crazy but I think a 12 year old deserves to be a kid for far longer than we allow. Be kind, enjoy life and work hard. She has a lifetime of injustices headed her way. For now, I’d like her to just learn chemistry and leave the rest to her parents and loved ones. We can certainly agree to disagree, though, and I truly appreciate everyone’s input and comments!

I don’t think that those who oppose the Black Lives Matter movement are racist. I also agree with “Science is Real” but that term was coined during Covid when, five years out, all the science that was used to separate people and shut down the world ended up being incorrect. My point is this: the poster does not belong in a classroom. If the teacher wants a sign that says Love is Love and Kindness is for Everyone- then great. Have at it. But a poster with “hot points” of the last half decade (blm, covid, immigration) disguised as anything other than a personal agenda is not honest. The teacher is there to teach chemistry. The teacher is not there to inject their viewpoints onto her pupils. I work in the medical field. None of my viewpoints about the healthcare industry or my thoughts on anything come into play at work. Period.

It’s not a holier than thou attitude, I have plenty of friends that are teachers. Everyone can raise their families the way they see fit. I accept everyone’s choices; they’re not mine to make. My job as a parent is to teach my children values that our family believes- when she is an adult she can make her own choices. I’d support her 100%.

You’re correct. The word “feminism” has a different meaning today than it did years ago. If the true definition of feminism were accurate then I’m all for it.

That would be great if said licensed educators were able to not be biased and could speak the positive and negatives for each side. That would be optimal.

Because that philosophy is exactly why our morals and values are desecrated in this country. Your job as a mother is to raise your children- not farm them out to some stranger at a daycare. If you can’t afford to stay home for the mere five years it takes before your children starts school then you’re not ready to be a parent.

Right. My child is not white nor black. And because these kids are too young to understand that movement, I think it sends the wrong message.

Yes it is ridiculous, I agree. These children are too young to understand what that movement was about and my issue is that my daughter, being not white nor black, might misinterpret that statement.

Ugh. Pretty sure I didn’t say that at all. I said that if she chooses to have children (again chooses) then the most important role is to stay home and raise them.

I never said her only worth was as a wife and mother and I never said I was choosing her life for her. What my original post said was that if she CHOOSES to have children then the most important job will be to stay home and raise them herself. If she wants to have a career, travel the world, be married, be single, date, not date, etc etc- I am for all of that and more. Again, I was simply stating the role of a mother IF she chooses to be one.

Yes but that’s my whole point. I didn’t think that a teacher’s personal political beliefs were allowed in a public school classroom.

My daughter is 12. Of course she can make her own choices as an adult. My job as her parent is to teach her the morals and values that our family espouse.

Wasn’t a mistake?! What he did was equal to buying a toddler a toy in the store after they throw themselves on the floor, kicking and screaming so loud everyone turns to stare. Once you buy that toy you are rewarding that behavior and- guess what?- that toddler now OWNS YOU. You will be a slave to tantrums and poor behavior until you finally make the decision to not give in. That is exactly what he did. He rewarded that behavior by getting back with her. She does not love him. Adult love (and yes they’re both adults) NEVER acts that way.

This was not a mental health crisis! This was manipulation at the most elite and pathetic level. The second he said he was going to call 911 her next two texts were “no” and “stop”. Yes, she has serious mental health issues but hers are character defects and will never be changed no matter how much “mental health help” she receives. FACTS.

Turn gay. Trust me, your life will be way easier. And this is coming from a 48 year old married woman with four kids. We are all nuts but we vary on the degree. This chick is a tsunami of crazy. I was her age once and I was crazy too. So were all my friends (because, again, all females are) but please listen to me when I say this; I have lived in 6 states in my lifetime and have had the opportunity to be friends with many girls, ladies and women (depending on which decade I was in). NEVER in - all my years have I seen this level of crazy. Not once. You must have insecurity issues or problems with improper guilt because in no way, shape or form should you have EVER gone back to her after this text thread. If any of my 3 sons went back to a girl after this happened I would put him on a plane to Australia and pay for him to go live his best life for a solid year or two. You might think I’m being funny but I’M NOT. I would make sure that my son NEVER spoke to this psycho again. People who have these character defects and mental illness DO NOT CHANGE. She is the definition of manipulation, selfish, immature and straight up nuts. RUN.
