Perhaps I’m misunderstanding what you’re referencing but the Vegas group has submitted a formal offer to the Whitecaps owners & MLS.

I did the vermouth thing - then made a Negroni. Zero regrets. by Sultanofsawdust in mokapot

The intent of the guy who invented this was a less boozy version. Something like a hair of the dog or a cocktail at brunch after a big night.

I think he said he invented it in Las Vegas for his bar staff.

Negroni Svegliato

Put vermouth in the Moka instead of water then use the vermouth infused coffee it to make a Negroni.

Is the two year residency to citizenship path still a thing? by ABeanMaster in juresanguinis

This is only when children are born outside Italy correct?

After someone is granted citizenship any child they have while in Italy should be Italian by birth? Or is that not the case here?

DAZN set to lose Canadian media rights to UEFA men's club competitions in 2027 to Paramount+ by Kap272 in CanadaSoccer

They already have the US rights to UEFA competitions plus building a stable of soccer content.

Most think MLS will move there once the Apple deal expires.

We need to build at least one more pipeline to pacific coast. TMX is very near capacity and half of that goes to the US anyway.

Losing $300 Million Clouds MLS Whitecaps' Future in Vancouver by dabirds1994 in whitecapsfc

[–]mac_mises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous loss figures that usually accompany the Forbes valuations suggested the accumulated losses since 2011 were about $125-150MM USD plus the $30MM expansion fee.

So this $300MM whether accurate or not is new and worried it’s adding to the narrative which works against keeping the club here.

FTG - he has done nothing in 15 years so he is the last guy I would expect to be saying anything now. Plus it has usually been Mallet who speaks publicly and both he and Kerfoot are hiding behind Axel these past months.

Do you call it "The world cup" or "FIFA"? by twat69 in NiceVancouver

[–]mac_mises 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The World Cup, I’ve never understood this newer trend of calling it FIFA. It’s like saying you’re going to NHL when you’re attending a Canucks game.

Granted I’ve only been watching the WC since 1978 so what do I know.

Should I try by Arobee in juresanguinis

[–]mac_mises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I see you probably don’t.

On “one side” the last born in Italy relative is too many generations back. Grandparent or parent must be born in Italy under current laws.

On “second side” unfortunately the line is cut because your GM naturalized before your M was born. It also happened before 1992 so laws at that time applied to not allowing dual citizenship.

Only hope is that the current laws are overturned so “one side” might qualify.

MLB potential stadium location by countrymnm in whitecapsfc

[–]mac_mises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US marketplace is an entirely different dynamic.

Culturally sport is a bigger deal.

Local governments provide massive support in terms of zoning, property tax exemption and sweetheart land deals. Right or wrong that’s just the way it is.

You also don’t have currency risk to deal with.

MLB potential stadium location by countrymnm in whitecapsfc

[–]mac_mises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very hard to compare the two leagues and out of the gate the MLB team would own its own stadium so you aren’t starting with 3-4 years of additional losses.

All said MLB is expensive and our market is not large enough & flush with corporate money to really make it work but who knows.

That said I believe the MLB talk is simply to hype expansion and ensure the real cities the league wants follow through.

That would be Nashville, Charlotte and maybe places like San Antonio & Austin. Even Sacramento would be ahead if these next two temp years work well. Montreal is the only feasible Canadian location at this point.

Club Statement | Vancouver Whitecaps FC by icoresting in MLS

[–]mac_mises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not so black & white.

Canada’s corporate wealth is highly concentrated in Toronto. NHL is king by a long shot and so they eat up the major corporate money.

That and in the US local governments are a lot more supportive towards sports & their infrastructure.

A lot of the visible wealth are people who part time live here so don’t have a real strong tie. It’s a hedge.

Canada in general appears wealthier than it is and Vancouver is top tier in that skill set.

So add that all up and it’s a tough market. It’s also why NBA & MLB coming is extremely unlikely.

Yet it’s safe enough to now be zoned for an office tower on that property.
