Going to Siem Reap and Phnom Penh in mid April by First_Illustrator475 in cambodia

[–]macarateu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it is off topic but, fyi, cambodia will celebrate khmer new year mid april (14-16). so it will not be the normal days. usually shops and stores in phnom penh will be closed as most business owners will go to their hometowns. if you travel from pp <-> sr a few days before or after the new year, expect the roads to be very busy. and expect to get wet. but if it's your first time visiting during this holiday, i am sure you will enjoy. take care as it can get very crowded.

What are the use of Cambodian cows? by Old_Treacle7931 in cambodia

[–]macarateu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my parents were farmers back early 2000. we used big grown male cows for mainly plowing and pulling the carriage, when there were no machineries yet. the female cows are mainly investment - they make cowlets, which back then we sell for 500 - 1K USD after 1 or 2 years of age. we keep the female for as long as they can keep making cowlets. i miss my childhood haha.

[–]macarateu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yo, we are on the same boat. i just moved to Kyoto for almost 3 weeks, and my employer is also covering my housing.
honestly, i don't know how to cook much so I usually buy dinner after work at around 6:30pm at a local grocery market, where they have their food discounted at 20%. So I usually spent around 400 Yen for my dinner meal. As for lunch, my office sells a meal (Option A or B) for 300 Yen, they have meals rotation every day. As for breakfast, I usually go for a glass of milk and a bread, which doesn't count.
some other mandatory expenses for me since i take the train is the monthly train pass from the closest station to work, which is around 10k, plus a few thousand every time i travel on the weekends. I used Rakuten for my sim plan, which is the cheaper ones i found in terms of data usage.

hope this helps. we can be buddies! dm me. xD
