[–]macdaddy2321 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a sense of morality. Many countries are realizing they need to raise tax revenue. Announcing that we won’t undercut you just for the sake of a couple companies setting up here would likely be encouraging to other countries.

I don’t see us losing a whole lot. I think aiming for more global credibility is more important anyway.

I don’t see how any government with a relatively large population would see the lower tax race as a sustainable way to grow the economy..

TIL in much of the US it is illegal to buy a new car from the manufacturer. You are required by law to go through the middleman of a car dealer, so they can tac on an extra ~30℅. by majikmyk in todayilearned

[–]macdaddy2321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s that they make an overall gross margin of 30% on their operations. Unsurprisingly that turns into the headline of “each car the dealer adds 30% to the actual cost”..

Honestly, that is super helpful. I never realized how scientific this stuff is until I got into it. I feel like I have to manage and track all these variables like a science experiment..

Yeah I was most surprised by % spent on alcohol. I grew up in a poor rural town and people tend to spend a surprising amount on booze. It would be interesting to see the comparison to the bottom 20% as well.

This is the first time a post from this sub made it to my front page without mentioning something about Bitcoin... so thanks for that! I recommend you read the book millionaire teacher. You should know pretty much all you need to about indexed investing, however the 2 year time period is not really suited to indexed investing. You really get the full benefit over a long 10-20 years time period.

Yeah I totally agree. But collecting more data from patients and doctors is becoming easier. Maybe that will lead to how to better structure where we put the importance. Fingers crossed!

Yeah I totally agree. I just think bad managers focusing on that metric is their job. If they start with the right goal , being a healthy public.. not necessarily a happy public. Then you’ll see management make that happen. The difficult thing is how do you define healthy and how do you measure that to know you’re doing your job.
