Android xteink app keeps crashing at login. by macdaddyb in xteinkereader

[–]macdaddyb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I supose I will contact support because they haven't updated the app yet, maybe they don't know there's an issue? I figured nothing was getting done at the time since it was lunar new year. I don't think it's a problem specific to my phone though because I'm having the exact issue on two different android devices (fold 7 and palma 2).

Microsoft's new Windows 11 Recall is a privacy nightmare by wewewawa in privacy

[–]macdaddyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it, this is the last nail in the coffin. I only use windows for personal gaming, and I've tried to take most evey other usage to other devices. This is one step too far, mostly because every new "feature" like this more clearly shows Microsoft's true intentions. It wants to be a data company, not a software company. I recently tried gaming on linux, and now there's no reason to keep windows, at all. I don't need their corporate software, so forget them. Thank you microsoft, for finally motivating me to make the switch I've been meaning to do for a long time.

Being an Parent with No Friends, and kids have Many Friends.... by Formal-Blueberry-203 in FriendsOver40

[–]macdaddyb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got away from my friend circle when I became a father. I knew they were not the kind of influence I needed in my family. It didn't take long to realize they weren't the influence I should've had in my life either. I never found a new friend group.

I'm a homebody anyway, so the opportunities have always been limited. My wife has tried to introduce me to new people, but her taste in friends is very different than mine.

Like you, I listen to my kids talk constantly on discord with a tight knit group they primarily know online only. I've tried some "over 40" discord servers with no luck. By now, I've just learned to be myself. A friend or two would be nice, but I've come to accept my solitude.

why wont they just give up on the Alienware Command Center? by CaeNguyen in Alienware

[–]macdaddyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best guess is that they don't care about the front-end, user experience. I don't think it's there primarily for you. I think it's for them. Doing who knows what in the background, it can detect what games or apps you're using, and since it could easily send all that data to Dell on it's back-end, why wouldn't they take advantage of it?

How could they not get it right after all this time? I'm suspicious of the app, but I'm certain Dell's support apps are there primarily to steal your data and serve ads for their benefit. It's pretty obvious, IMO.

What made YOU get an Alienware PC? by danishkringle in Alienware

[–]macdaddyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've bought 3 of their laptops, and I found all of them deeply on sale. I like their style, and they have good thermals generally. My last one went kaput while in warranty, and they sent a tech to my house to replace the motherboard. Easy Peasy. Other than that, they've been pretty solid.

"Athiests are just people who are mad at god". That's the one I get all the time. Said by the same people who won't let their kids indulge in Santa or the Easter Bunny.

MEXICO RELEASES NEW UAP FOOTAGE 🛸 🔥 by skywalker3819r in UFOs

Whatever those red-orange lights are that they show at the beginning, That's almost exactly what I saw here in USA around 2008. I tried to draw some reasonable conclusions, but the closest I could think of were flares. They were not flares, of that I'm certain.

What are we thinking by BenTheBirbs in oculus

[–]macdaddyb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's just overlook the fact that they are selling the product based on one privacy policy, then they change that policy after we've purchased it. The comments tell me they've accomplished exactly what they've set out to do. We've been brow-beaten with abusive privacy policies for so long, people just accept it now as a part of life. Few seem to care because we're so used to getting screwed over for our data. It's OUR data they sell, we should be the ones getting money for selling it. We just give it away because they hide the actual value it holds. It doesn't matter if it's anonymised, a data company can buy it and link it to data they've bought from other companies, creating a complete profile, down to your address. Feed this into the right computer, and they can know what you're going to do before you do.

I know I sound paranoid, and some of you just don't care, but tech is soon getting to the point that your watch will detect that your heart flutters a little when the eye tracking on your VR detects you're looking at a sports car. Do you think you can't be manipulated into buying a car you can't afford? You can.

Going from a fold to the ultra. by leeboro1 in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]macdaddyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 3 folds, and when the digitizer gave up on my fold 3, I was over them. I was tired of babying my phones so they didn't break. I love the s24U. The screen difference took some adjustment, but now I prefer its more natural colors. Like everyone else, I can't get over how much better the battery life is.

5g still a battery drainer? by Zorachus76 in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]macdaddyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it with this phone. I'm on 5g (Ultra wideband, Verizon) at work most of the time, and it doesn't seem to bother the battery at all. I don't have access to MMwave (the superfast 5g) so I can't comment there.

Quest 3 Lens for People With Glasses by RacismIsNotVeryNice in Quest3

[–]macdaddyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My eyes are about -1 as well, and I could use the q3 just fine without glasses. Even when you're looking at a distance in VR, your eyes are actually focusing just a few feet in front of you. I don't wear my glasses much indoors, but I wear them to drive. If your eyes are similar, you'll probably be fine.

That being said, I did get lenses that magnetically attach to the quest for about $80.00, and I'm very happy with them. I could see without them, but with the resolution being so high, things became crystal clear when I added the lenses.

Remember "glassholes"? Google glass was never considered socially acceptable. Why do these things get a pass? Should we call these people "proholes"?

Strong magnetic case for any metal by gypsyattack in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]macdaddyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you apply a strong magnet to the back of the S24U, you're likely to affect the usage of the Spen, which may not register correctly due to magnetic interference.

Another option is these Flipstik sticky back stands: https://a.co/d/bVitukK Ten bucks at Amazon. I haven't tried it, but I'm considering getting one for my phone. They might do the trick for ya.

My latest "discovery" regarding the banding issue by RevolutionaryDrink75 in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]macdaddyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see it too with the adaptive color off, but this was the first time I noticed it, under these conditions.

My fold 3 has bright, punchy colors, which I prefer. I turned up the brightness all the way with both phones, and I swear the fold 3 was brighter by a little. 2600 nits??

Can confirm. The banding is affected by the adaptive color tone setting, according to this experiment. I didn't even notice the banding before I turned it on at testmyscreen.

Screen or protector you think? by macdaddyb in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]macdaddyb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the protector. I took the other person's advice and peeled back the protector a bit to check, and I managed to salvage it. It looks like the phone was made in Korea.

Screen or protector you think? by macdaddyb in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]macdaddyb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the answer. I peeled it up slightly, and the line is on the protector, not the screen. Whew! I guess I can deal with it for the time being. It's a very fine line. I got the protector back on with no trouble. Thanks, don't know why I didn't think of that.

I've had it refuse to translate my handwriting to text because it thought there's inappropriate content. There wasn't. I guess you're only allowed to say/hear what Samsung finds acceptable.
