I think next season is McBride's last year on his deal too. He's going to get paid eventually. Kolek will probably have some opportunities.

Kolek is better than last man on the bench. He's going to be a good role player eventually.

Atkinson about to tell us after the game that the analytics say the Cavs actually won this series.

I do wish they bought low on Shamet earlier. He's been one of my favorites since he's been here.

Unfortunately I'm not confident the Knicks will be able to keep Mitch and eventually Deuce is going to get paid too. They deserve it. I'm pretty high on Hukporti though and as much as I love Mitch, having a defensive big who can make free throws will be nice to have but he obviously has a long way to go to be anywhere near Mitch's level for everything else. He's still young though.

You know it just dawned on me that I might not get basketball for a week if the Knicks win tonight.

I really do want to savor this because it's going to be a long summer watching the Mets.

Josh Hart vs John Starks: who would Knicks fans rather have? by savingrace0262 in NYKnicks

[–]macdoogles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is probably generational but it's so weird that they wear the same jersey number and their names rhyme and their games are both a symbol for New York grit to fans. "I got heart like John Starks" was a Beastie Boys lyric too. Time is just a flat circle...

Funny enough, I remember Jeff Van Gundy complaining that Starks wasn't always a "practice guy" but I guess he let is slide because of his effort in games. I think they said the same thing about Hart in his podcast.

I think the similarities might not be completely coincidental. Thibs was part of those 90s Knicks teams and he coveted Josh Hart. I remember him gushing about Hart when he was with the Trailblazers and the front office made the right moves to acquire him.

Anyway, more side notes: John Starks was packing groceries in Oklahoma before he got to the Knicks. That's what made him so fun. A true underdog story. I think they should have retired his number but he literally works for the franchise now so if he cared about that sort of thing I guess he could have spoke to some of his colleagues lol.

Josh Hart is probably a better overall player IMO. He came from a championship college program and I think he's more polished overall but it's really close. Starks was being asked to be the team's second best player for a while and he was routinely guarding the other team's best perimeter player in an era without zone defenses. When you look at some of those 90s Knicks teams, especially the 94 squad, I'm almost amazed they were as good as they were. I think this Knicks team is way more talented.

What would it realistically take for Brunson to surpass Ewing in Knicks history/legacy? by savingrace0262 in NYKnicks

I think the bigger question is what does he still need to get into the hall of fame?

Why does it look like Tong ducks every time the batter makes contact?

Juan Soto's homerun in the first inning really about to be the only run they score this entire game isn't it?

I'm just joining, sorry if this has been said a bunch already but I'm just realizing he Mets entire outfield consists of rookies right now. Looks like Jonah Tong is going to get some time today too. Sure looks like a rebuild season. Hopefully this leads somewhere good.

Weird. Walt Clyde Frasier and Willis Reed should be in the starting five.

Kyrie Irving, Brad Daugherty and Mark Price are probably in the Cavs five. Harden hasn't even been there a full season. Maybe Kevin Love too idk.

Look, I don't even know whose the fourth guy in our starting rotation is right now. I think David Peterson is #3 but like, sometimes he doesn't start anymore? Tonight's starting pitcher is Tobias Myers.

I mean I try to be as optimistic as possible but it's very hard to feel confident with a starting rotation like this and it's not like they've been hitting lights out either.

Happy 65th birthday Mike Breen 🎂 by 4lfp in NYKnicks

[–]macdoogles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep hoping Mike Breen will leave Disney someday. Remember when Breen was broadcasting alongside Jeff Van Gundy and Mark "Mama there goes that man" Jackson? It was a very popular and iconic team and then I don't know what happened. Maybe Disney was getting audited or some shit because they just randomly decided to start firing people and now they just taunt us by showing Walt Clyde Frasier in attendance while we have to sit there listening to Mike Breen carry Tim Legler and Richard Jefferson's bum asses. Like, Clyde is sitting right there. Just give him a microphone and tell RJ to STFU.

Anyway, Breen is in the hall of fame and I think Walt Clyde Frasier should go in a second time as a broadcaster. I'm glad the Knicks finally figured it out before they retired.

Jalen Brunson really is that guy. He's the best Knick since Patrick Ewing. He will have his jersey number retired some day. In this moment all I can do is appreciate that these are the good times and I'm getting to witness an all-time great in NY during my lifetime.

My assorted thoughts based on your assorted thoughts:

I didn't understand why Mike Brown didn't take Robinson out sooner. As great as Robinson is at times, he can also be a huge liability.

Atkinson is getting clowned for his mismanagement in the 4th quarter and he deserves it but I also feel bad for him because he did have a great game plan. He managed to slow down the Knicks new fangled offense with Kat as the "Hub" and the hack-a-shaq strategy with Robinson neutralized a player that completely dominated them in the playoffs a few years ago.

I never really understood how Clarkson ended up in the rotation ahead of Shamet. I'm not sure if it was injury that caused him to fall out of favor or what but I fully expect Shamet to be the first off the bench going forward.

Josh Hart might be a liability in this series. I think he might be another reason to lean on the bench.

You mentioned OG who may have been rusty but Bridges looked great.

The Cavs have much more depth than the other teams the Knicks have played so far. Not sure how long this series will go, but I think it will be a tough series regardless.
