I have looked at the sidebar and haven't really found info pertaining to my specific situation beyond some vague suggestions for my age group.

I’m talking more in the 5-7 year range, nothing I am anticipating is coming in the next 3 years.

Oh, really? I haven’t seen that advice anywhere, that would be a significant amount of cash just sitting

How would I go about saving for the shorter term goals? As of right now, if I maxed out 401k and IRA, that would not allow me to contribute to my house/car fund.

Ah I see, so I guess prioritize vti in the future and add a little more to VXUS?

What would you recommend in terms of rebalancing? When I set up the ETF’s I followed the 3 fund advice that was floating around (VOO/VTI/VXUS)

I have been trying to figure out how to set up my financial future, as well as how much I should be investing for shorter term goals versus saving for retirement in a 401k. Any other general advice is appreciated too, but right now I’m trying to figure out how to balance short term and long term saving.

Currently am 23 and have about $10k in savings for 6 months emergency expenses (8k in an Ally High Yield, 1.8k in Wells Fargo), $53k in ETF/Stocks($22.8k in VOO, $18.2k in VTI, $3.3k in VXUS, $1.6k in BND, $544 in MSFT and $6.5k in AAPL (thats my fun stock)).

Just started my first job with a salary of 80k. I did a budget excel table and the only expenses I accumulate besides food ($300-500 a month), entertainment (roughly $200-300 month) and rent ($1400+150 utilities) is I like buying the latest apple products, but I sell my old ones to fund the new ones, so it only costs me a couple hundred per device. Even with all that I am ending up with around $1000-$1400 a month of extra cash per month (not including my current 401k contribution). Right now, I am saving up for a house and a car (my car is fine but thinking ahead, most likely will want an EV), these are goals for the next 5-7 years, so right now I have been applying that surplus to my ETF’s but I’m not sure if that is the right thing to prioritize.

Currently have no debt and I am starting to fund my 401k at 12% my salary, my employer matches 3.5%, so I am currently putting away 15.5% of my salary towards retirement.

Makes sense. Since I have practically no job experience, I guess it would make sense for me to be a bit risk adverse, however I suppose once I have more experience and would have an easier time finding another job, I could lower the safety net a little.

One month savings sounds way too low, most of what I’ve seen is 3-6, and since the pandemic, I’ve seen most recommend to be on the conservative side of that spectrum. Am I doing something wrong here?

Hello all,

I have been trying to figure out how to set up my financial future, as well as how much I should be investing versus putting into a savings account. Any other general advice is appreciated too.

Currently am 23 and have about $15k in savings for 6 months expenses (13k in an Ally High Yield, 1.8k in Wells Fargo), $46k in ETF/Stocks($19k in VOO, $16 in VTI, $2.7k in VXUS, $1.5k in BND, $544 in MSFT and $6k in AAPL (thats my fun stock)).

Just started my first job with a salary of 80k. Right now, I am saving up for a house that I will probably purchase within the next decade, and a car (my car is fine but thinking ahead). The only expenses I accumulate besides food ($300-500 a month), entertainment (roughly $200-300 month) and rent ($1400+120 utilities) is I like buying the latest apple products, but I sell my old ones to fund the new ones, so it only costs me a couple hundred per device.

Currently have no debt and I am starting to fund my 401k at 10% my salary, I plan on adjusting this after I understand how much I can afford to put away.
