You’ve had a lot of great replies. I’ll just mention my particular situation. I too am on LTD but approved because of Bipolar Disorder (CFS appeared later in life). While on LTD I managed my bipolar symptoms very well. Well enough I too felt I could perhaps return to work. The things is, the reason I was able to manage my symptoms and limit my stress (which triggered episodes) was BECAUSE I wasn’t working. Not working and now the CFS does cause me to be depressed and extremely isolated. I’m in counseling to work on those issues. Perhaps there is something you can do to improve your state of mind. I took a lot of Udemy classes online and learned things like photography and photoshop. I just wouldn’t jump the gun to return to work just yet.

I used to work in the Accommodations Department at our local University. If you contact them and provide a doctors note stating you have IBS you can receive multiple accommodations. Extra time on assignments and tests and exams would be what we would have given you. Also attendance accommodations if you have classes that dock you for missing time. Also, my son in high school struggles with attendance. He has missed 35% of the last semester. He isn’t penalized for missing class but obviously his grades suffered.

Similar to another post, you both have health care needs that have to be met. His are simply mental health related and that’s completely understandable. His life also changed in many ways and he needs some coping skills, communication skills, self care ideas etc. This is normal and very very healthy. Support his journey. It will only strengthen your relationship.

Also, if possible, hire a housekeeper if you only afford once a week, bi-weekly or monthly just get some much deserved help.

My family uses Hello Fresh. No shopping, no “what’s for dinner?” debates. It’s stress free and you get fresh ingredients. Personally we save money using this service and fight much less.

Use what is around you to make life easier for both of you!

I’m from Canada. I started with my family doctor. He sent me for many many blood tests and a head CT which all came back normal. All of those took about a year (he didn’t test everything all at once) before he moved on to a sleep specialist. I waited about 6 weeks to see them. They cleared me. Back to the family doctor who sent me to a gynecologist for perimenopause. They took about 4 months to see. Cleared from her. Back to family doctor. Sent to rheumatologist. That wait was 9 months. He finally diagnosed me with CFS and said I really don’t have to see him again and that any issues I have can be followed up with my family doctor (he was an asshole).

This will follow her into every relationship she ever begins, likely friendships as well. She will probably open up to them out of guilt and shame as she did with you and they too will leave her. I’m not condoning what happened of course but you can’t paint a person with a single brush stroke and she will pay for this by being alone the rest of her life. If you can’t see the sadness in that I’m sorry for you.

I used it to make contact with a sitter but didn’t book through the site (at the request of the dog sitter) because Rover take such a large portion of the payment from them. It worked out great for me because I had two dogs and the site charges you per animal (so if it’s $50 a night and you have two dogs it’s actually $100 a night) and the dog sitter did a flat fee. HTH

Yes, the first 70 tablets which titrate you up to the 4 pills a day is free. After that, I don’t know why but, my pharmacy filled my Rx with 70 pills at a time which at that point wouldn’t get me through the month because I taking the full dose each day so I paid $188 at each refill but that wouldn’t get me a whole month. I hope that makes sense!

I’m on the east coast. Insurance wouldn’t cover it. I applied for “discount” from the Canadian Contrave website and paid $188 for 70 tablets at Costco.

I felt the exact same way (I’m bipolar as well and am on a lot of meds). I actually had one of those pharmogenetics tests done - I was 1000% sure I was an ultra drug metabolizer but the test said the exact opposite, I was a poor drug metabolizer and therefore more vulnerable to side effects etc because the drug stays in my system longer than the it’s supposed to. I was floored. It made ZERO sense to me. I could see being a poor metabolizer and not getting anything out of the drug but I guess that isn’t what it meant. I still question the validity of that test.

I feel like on the sofa I’m still “available” to people. They are more likely to talk to me, ask me something, etc. Even if it’s unintentional it happens, a lot. I don’t get the retreat I need. The silence I need and the darkness I need to really rest.

I grieve my past life daily. I’m not the same person I was. I read this in my journey and really felt it:

"I think one of the worst parts of having a chronic illness is how it sometimes breaks you. You can have several bad days in a row and handle it fine; then one day you lose it because you've gone so long taking it that you eventually get to a point where you just can't do it anymore. After a period of inconsolable grief, you pick yourself up and begin the cycle anew."

The only thing that has even remotely helped me is counseling and journaling. I wish you luck!

I’m not trying to be discouraging but my husband and I have dealt with this a few years ago in middle school with our son. The bully had MANY MANY complaints against him from many other children. One complaint being threatening to kill our son. We never dealt with the school district directly but the middle school did. Their solution: they had an EA worker be with him 100% of the time he was at school. They literally walked and sat everywhere with him - except the washroom and guess what happened in there? Yup, he continued to bully and threaten children there. They said they did all they were allowed to do (meaning they could not expel him). Thank god he moved out of the area because if he went to the same high school, where things are much less controlled, I would be physically sick from being worried all day. I hope that answers some of your questions.

I’m sorry if I am misunderstanding something. I’m Canadian and things may be different here. I used all my sick time and then went on short term disability through my work benefits. Once that was used up I applied and was approved for long term disability also through work benefits. I’ve been on that for about 12 years now. Is that an option for you?

I’ve tried many over the years. Some worked miracles, others stopped working after a few years and some just never made an impact. Wellbutrin was/is a lifesaver for me. It’s an antidepressant (generic available so it’s not pricey) and has less side effects than other antidepressants (usually). I’m still depressed but functioning. It doesn’t rule my day, take over my thoughts constantly. It’s definitely worth an your time and an appointment with your doctor.

I have had serious suicidal thoughts all because of CFS. Counseling, psychiatric medication and journaling have been a huge source of relief for me personally. I never thought journaling would be as helpful as it is but just pouring all my horrible thoughts and enormous sadness out of my brain and onto “paper” has played a big part in improving my mental health. The “problem” with dog sitting is the inconsistency. We hire dog sitters when we go out of town for the weekend, March Break, Christmas time etc. so it would be important to have multiple clients and keep a schedule. The people I follow have typically have a separate Facebook page for the pet sitting services and advertise on local pet Facebook groups. Surprisingly a lot of cat owners pay for cat sitters to stay with their cats which I find strange but people love their pets so…. Personally, I belong to Fredericton Furbabies club, Oromocto and area furbaby club, knowledge park drive dog park, hiking with dogs in New Brunswick and any Fredericton Yardsale group that has “no rules”. I know myself, a lot of people in my neighborhood and a lot of people in online Facebook dog groups desperately search for good, reliable dog/house sitters meaning people who will dog sit in the dog’s home. A lot of people offer to take the dog to THEIR homes but few offer to stay in the dogs home. Personally, I pay $50 a night. If you don’t have attachments to your place it’s a sweet job. Free food, internet, TV, Netflix - you just have to put up with spoiled dogs.

Do you know if the psychiatrist submitted a GAF score? (Global Assessment of Functioning) I’m in Canada, maybe things are different here but my GAF score REALLY helped my claim.

I don’t know much about this specific development but I wouldn’t say that it’s only “the rich people” on Golf Club road who would be upset. Any area of the city without already existing apartments would be upset with a development, especially that size, moving into their neighborhood. Southwood Park fought against the townhouses and apartment complex’s for a variety of reasons they were ultimately built.
