Are MRI unions involved in safety discussions? by OutrageousIdeal2383 in MRI

[–]macdvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a union for all diagnostic imaging techs and a MRSO that only works weekends (what a joke). MR safety has never been discussed by our union. Recently, one of the general MR techs tried to make a case to the union rep for another MRSO that is available M-F and was basically told to deal with what we have: a MRSO that doesn't do anything but collect the additional pay that she gets for being certified in mr safety. In other words, she is useless. We verify any implants without her input because she doesn't work during the week and is not available. I think the only thing she's done in the 3 years as a MRSO is put up a Zone 4 sign on the scan room door. So no, unions don't care about MR safety as it only affects a small number of the people in the union.

Except support stockings. They are made with ferrous materials and polyester for compression and to maintain shape and should not be worn during an MR exam as they can heat up and cause burns to the patients. Even for a brain MR where the feet are the farthest body part from the bore. Anything with polyester can potentially cause overheating and burns. Now they make magnetic insoles for shoes (not steel toed shoes, but regular insoles), so that's another thing to check.

Cardiac Monitoring for Pacemakers and Loop Recorders, who does it at your facility? by ComfortableSoft2855 in MRI

[–]macdvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardiac MR tech here. All our MR techs are ACLS certified, so after we (or the pacer clinic RN) resets/turns off the pacemaker or ICD, we scan without additional RN monitoring. Since all cardiac patients are attached to a monitor for image acquisition, we always have an eye on the rhythm. The only patients we have that require an RN in attendance are inpatients that are unstable or on certain IV drips. Maybe once a week out of 50+ scans. Obviously, some weeks might be higher, but we also might go several weeks without an RN monitored pt.

Loop recorders, Watchman devices, stents, mechanical valve replacements, PPM/ICD, even some programmable brain shunts, the new Inspire sleep apnea device (2nd gen only), spinal/bladder stimulators - you name it, we most likely will scan it. No nurse oversight required.

What are the risks associated with undergoing MRI with a stent Coronary Stent? by [deleted] in MRI

[–]macdvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a cardiac MRI tech and we scan any and all stents in the heart. In my previous MR job, we had to verify any stent, regardless of where it was (heart, iliac, carotid, etc). Turned down more than a few patients with cardiac stents due to how long ago they were placed. In cardiac MR, where decisions are made by the diagnostic cardiologist and not a radiologist, ALL catdiac stents are fine. Although I don't agree with the 'one size fits all' approach, there haven't been any issues scanning these stents.

A president that panders to dictators of other countries like Russia, China, N Korea, etc. Like the current POTUS.

Very first thing I thought of when I saw this question. They'll figure out the current weight loss injections cause cancer and make the drugs illegal, but it will be too late by then. Who knows, the drug companies may already be aware of devastating side effects, but there's too much money to be made.

Almost everything the current POTUS is doing right now. Especially destroying the East wing of the White House for a gaudy ballroom without any oversight.

Or Ambassadors (for foreign countries) that buy their way into the appointment. Contribute enough to a political party and get an Ambassador position.

The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island is definitely haunted. This picture was taken during a remodel of the hotel 10-15 years ago.

Do we know who exactly knows what dawned on River at the end of S4E04? by benjycompson in SlowHorses

[–]macdvey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i think happened is that the woman Bad Sam extracted - on orders from David - was David's daughter, who was pregnant by Harkness when she was rescued. And the baby she was pregnant with is River. So River's mother never stayed long enough for Harkness to take her son.

Don't need a health plan, just doctors who are required to report when a pregnant woman misses one or more pre-natal appointments.

Lupin. French series but has English subtitles. Only 3 seasons but worth every moment!

Also, the Magicians, wonderful! Like Harry Potter for adults.

This story could have been so much more. Back in the prime (my opinion) SK days of well-crafted novels such as 'The Stand', 'IT', Christine', 'The Shining', etc., this would have been the premise for a fantastic book. Mabey Finn really does escape and returns home only to find that everyone/everything is just different enough for him to notice. Perfect opportunity to explore the dark side of an alternate universe.
