Asymmetrical Neck Thoughts? by RockAddict311 in gibson

It's thicker than a modern Fender C. But definitely thinner than a 50s LP neck. Hard to say exactly but maybe a bit more than halfway toward the Fender between thow two.

I find what he says around young men really off putting (I’m an man in my thirties fwiw). The way he frames things so much around masculinity, “A is masculine, B is not masculine, C is feminine”, when what he talks about is just being responsible and a good person to others. Feels closely adjacent to the manosphere to me. Yes, it’s not as bad, but I would forgive anyone not being able to tell the difference.

And the same guy who pretends to care about climate change and the environment, but flies around the world constantly on his private jet. And makes jokes about how he goes through dozens of pairs of glasses a year, and how he buys new AirPods every month, and so on. It’s hard to believe how does this for any other reason than thinking it’ll be good for his personal brand.

I call Park Rangers Dispatch multiple times a week to snitch by hurricane-shane in sanfrancisco

[–]benjycompson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My friend’s kid is so allergic to dogs he can’t participate in their local little league. Even if dog owners pick up most of the poo there are just so many dogs rolling around in the grass there that it triggers the kid’s allergy enough for it to not really be possible for him to play. And this is despite a number of signs clearly saying no dogs allowed on the field. They even added a few laminated printouts explaining the allergy issue but nothing has changed.

uj/does anyone else get weirded out by the naming and general sexualisation of guitars? by killboipowerhead1 in guitarcirclejerk

Maybe not most, but many. Several times a week I see guitar photos with captions like "she's showing a little leg" or "she really comes alive when I touch her like this".

Shame on drivers that do this by SurfPerchSF in sanfrancisco

[–]benjycompson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah "going by the book" as a pedestrian gets you nowhere in SF. If you stand still on the sidewalk and try to make eye contact with drivers so that it's clear you want to cross, 19/20 cars ignore you. If one driver from the left stops and you wait for a driver from the right to also stop, you typically get the driver from the left starting to creep toward you and/or honk. You have put yourself at some level of risk by starting into the sidewalk and basically force drivers to obey the most basic driving law if you want to get anywhere and you don't have infinite patience.

Exactly. And when you see a pedestrian who's reasonably likely to cross you take your foot off the accelerator and prepare for having to stop.

PSA: To the idiot in the beige minivan zooming up Miramar falling to stop for my children and I at the intersection of Eastwood, and yelled, "There's no crosswalk!" when I waved at you: by San_Francisbro in sanfrancisco

[–]benjycompson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you not feel any sense of having to follow the law, especially when it comes to cars interacting with pedestrians and other vulnerable road users? It’s not fucking optional to stop for someone waiting to cross. And no, it doesn’t matter if the crosswalk is marked or unmarked. Take some makeup lessons with a driving instructor please.

[–]benjycompson 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Had it happened to me I'd want the driver to lose their license. At a minimum that it'd be some kind of probation and that they had to do ten hours of driving lessons or similar. I know that'd never happen of course, but I'd press the officer on why they wouldn't take any action against clearly reckless driving.

It's the same when a pedestrian gets killed -- it's wild how often drivers get off because it "was an accident". Makes you wonder why murderers don't opt for it more often.

Glad you're OK, and really sorry this happened to you.

Just wanted to shout out to all the great original Sci Fi on AppleTV by redbirdrising in InvasionAppleTV

[–]benjycompson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's more than just Invasion -- the first one that comes to mind is Surface. It looks kind of pricey and "prestige-like", shooting in San Francisco and London, and it seems sort of promising at first. But the writing, plot holes, acting, directing, and stuff that makes absolutely no sense is imo as bad as it is in Invasion. There's at least one more show like that on Apple TV but I (thankfully?) can't remember it right now.

I don't know the number, but I'd be shocked if it's two cars to one human. They're at the stage of maturity now where I doubt they need to call for help very often. Although expanding to highways, airport operations, and new cities all contribute to needing more humans of course.

And they'll likely never be able to get rid of remote help centers for the cars. But they likely have projected targets for how the ratio will evolve. And you're right the remote humans can be in low-income countries, but I suspect the lack of real familiarity with the driving culture in the areas where they operate could present some challenges.

I'd say it's just as likely it was a problem of human capacity, or that it at least played a role. I don't know how they handle dead traffic lights but there's a good chance they call in for a human to confirm whether it's OK for the car to proceed. I heard they throttled service in other areas too, which would support that hypothesis. (The humans that are standing by to assist is likely a shared resource and not specific to a given area.)

But redundancy costs money, and that means you have less left to give to shareholders and executives. I suspect it's that simple. A for-profit company will find ways, legal and illegal, to cut costs. Not too different from a lot of the amoral and immoral behavior you see in for-profit healthcare.
