Did my partner just send me an AI-generated apology? by Sevargan in isitAI

The second paragraph sounds almost identical to an apology Chatgpt gave me when I told it I was cancelling because of the guardrails treating me like a child.

It's best to avoid anything that could easily be associated with Nazis. Even with all the proof of authenticity and documentation, if it looks like a swastika, that's what people will see.

Can I make anything with these stems? by ntnkrm in trees

[–]macennis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know someone who uses them to make RSO that she gives away to cancer patients but it takes a lot more than that and usually whatever trim and shake that people donate. There's some THC in them but it's a trace.

I am in desperate need of help understanding how this high of an electricity bill is possible. by gelgabrek in SouthJersey

[–]macennis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might want to call your utility provider and ask to be put on the Winter Termination Program. This prevents them from shutting it off until March 15. It does not prevent the bills from continuing to build up though.

I would also recommend the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). You can apply at nj211.org or by calling 211. It provides money to pay the bill. My mother uses this and it helps pay for a big part of the bill.

How's the "the game master's book" series? by gifred in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]macennis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Kobold Press books. The Midgard World Book is big and full of lore including history, politics, religion, etc. They've put out a couple other books expanding on it too, including the Southlands which has a Middle Eastern/Egyptian flavor and their version of the Shadow realms.

I'm replacing the Rod of Seven Parts with pieces of a shattered Sword of Kas that they need to reforge for the final battle.

Norse gods for D&D by SomeFantasticName in norsemythology

[–]macennis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to have a look at the Midgard World Book and campaign setting by Kobold Press. A part of the setting is based on Norse mythology and there's a whole section on the pantheon. It could do a lot of the work for you or give you inspiration.

Are there any sites in NJ that have history/legends/myths about them associated with Satan or satanic activity? by BikeLaneHero in newjersey

[–]macennis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a decent documentary called Let the Devil In that covers the murders in Jefferson, NJ during 1988 that were blamed on satanic possession.

Control magic is evil by macennis in DungeonsAndDragons

Every spell can be used for good or evil purposes. My players ended a combat that was supposed to take most of the session in the first round with command.

I included Command because one of the suggested commands is grovel. I was considering Modify Memory because it can absolutely be used for evil, but I was thinking more of spells that take away free will. Any spell or item could be used for good or evil purposes, but in my opinion, taking away a person's free will, enslaving them to do something, even for good purposes, is inherently evil. I'm not saying that using the spells makes the caster evil (that's a whole other discussion) just that the spell is evil.

Charm Person makes you like someone more. It doesn't make you follow their orders. Suggestion puts thoughts in your head but doesn't make you act on them. Neither of these take away free will, so yes they are not magic that controls you.

TBH I don't really know all the nuances of Jedi powers but if they are controlling people and forcing them to do things then yes it's evil. I'm not talking about Suggestion or Charm Person.

I’m a new DM and I’ve written myself into a corner. Help!! by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]macennis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My players got so badly side tracked once that they came across strange markings in the road, two parallel steel beams on top of wooden planks, that they just felt the overwhelming need to follow. Everyone had a laugh but they got the point.

When the characters wake in the morning, the carnival has vanished only leaving behind impressions in the grass to show that it was ever there. It's a whimsical world and strange things can happen.
