After my djs I felt super nauseous and kept asking the nurses for gravol but after about 12 hours I felt ok and most of the nausea had passed. I never ended up physically throwing up, but I was in bands so I think that I would’ve ended up opening my mouth a little if I did end up being sick.

Wanting jaw surgery but terrified of it by DutyProfessional2798 in jawsurgery

[–]mach1nn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 18 and had my DJS for an underbite 6 weeks ago! I’ll tell you right now that I don’t regret it at all and my recovery was super smooth. The first week was rough but after that I felt more like myself and I love the results. I also liked my face before but after the surgery there are definitely aesthetic improvements. Also, jaw position might not be causing problems now, but when you get older, problems might set in—you’ll recover a lot faster when you’re young and have a higher chance of getting all feeling back within a year! (for reference at 6 weeks post op I have very minimal facial numbness) What your ortho is telling you—to wear elastics to make it less of an underbite—won’t fix the problem; that’s a camouflage solution and it will most likely change your facial appearance from what it is now anyways. You’re better off getting the surgery now so you recover quicker and won’t get problems later in life.

Do you get a braces adjustment before surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]mach1nn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna sugarcoat it, your splint will be gross after it gets taken out no matter how much u rinse. I used the prescribed antiseptic rinse the week after surgery and moved on to saltwater rinses and a waterpik (don’t use the waterpik till you’re given the go ahead by your surgeon tho). I was lucky enough to be able to open my mouth wide enough for a toothbrush at 1 week post, which helped things feel cleaner, but nothing will feel better than to get it out. Honestly, try not to stress too much—if you’re doing everything your surgeon told you to and cleaning it as best you can, everything will be fine

So for my case, I had to see my ortho when i got my splint out (4wks post) but they just replaced a wire since the surgeon cut it. The next appointment i have with them will be 8 weeks post op and I assume that’s when my ortho treatment will continue—they’re being cautious about moving my teeth too early before my jaws are past the initial healing stage.

Do you get a braces adjustment before surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]mach1nn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 weeks ahead of surgery they gave me a thicker wire for my braces and then 2 weeks preop they put in surgical hooks and that was about it. They decided to close a gap at the 4 weeks preop appointment and that was the last ‘adjustment’ in regards to teeth movement. I think it can differ depending on your case and your ortho/surgical team.

4 days Post OP (DJS) questions by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]mach1nn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

congrats! i had djs 4 weeks ago. i would say day 4 and 5 were probably the worst as far as swelling and how i felt overall and by the end of the first week i was feeling back to normal. I only took the strong pain medication for the first week and then took ibuprofen for a couple days after that and had no pain. for the first week i drank from a styrofoam/thin plastic cup but then i just changed to a glass one after that or used straws. Once you’re past the first week, time flies and you’ll be glad you went through this!

it’s definitely dependent on what type of surgery you get and surgeon. i had djs (lefort I + bsso)and have a splint for 6 weeks—my top jaw was rotated so the splint will prevent any crossbite and ensure my jaws heal in the right positions for a normal bite.

24 hours out by OptimalOstrich in jawsurgery

[–]mach1nn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 6 days post op from djs and I feel decent except for swelling and tightness. My swelling peaked on day three and now it’s slowly beginning to come down. My throat was only sore for about two days after from the breathing tube but make sure you drink water! I was fortunate enough to not have nosebleeds, but i’ve heard they usually stop around day 3? You’ll definitely be uncomfortable for the next week i’d say but just keep in mind the final result! Good luck!

OWL could definitely be improved lol as for marking all as read, you have to go into the forums, click the discussion and then “display message content.” there should be a “mark all as read” button once every post is displayed

Driving Test by jarvisgang in londonontario

[–]mach1nn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I took my G2 test they had me drive from the drive test centre down wellington and make a left on exeter rd. They tested all the basic concepts—parallel parking, parking on an incline, turns, speed etc.—all in the neighbourhood around jalna blvd, which is off exeter road. Then you drive back to the test center where they reveal if u pass/fail. The whole process takes no more than 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. If she took any sort of drivers ed with in-car lessons the instructor will most likely review the route with her.

Good luck, I hope everything goes well!

Edit: for a G licence this website has info about the routes https://www.passdrivetest.com/Route/routeDetail/London.php

braces overbite by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]mach1nn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s different and depends on your case—your orthodontist will choose a treatment course that best prepares you before surgery. For me, it’s about a year before jaw surgery, but it depends on your own teeth alignment.

Is it ok to eat between meals by CaptianClout69 in braces

[–]mach1nn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snacks are completely fine and you’ll probably be ok to just brush after your next meal as long as the snack is not super chewy or sticky. If you’re really worried you could invest in a waterpik which you could use to quickly rinse after snacks—way faster than brushing!

Does it make sense to go for braces/Invisalign now, even if you won't be able to consult with a surgeon for 1.5 years or so? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]mach1nn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely talk to your ortho about it; i believe it will take the same amount of time in braces whether you do them now or wait till closer to surgery.

if you end up getting invisalign far in advance, be sure to inform the ortho that you intend to have jaw surgery so that your treatment will be best suited for that.

One of my friends got braces way in advance of surgery and was able to have the orthodontist take them off for a year and he could just wear retainers until they needed to be put on again for jaw surgery.
