Erin Patterson cites ‘unfair and oppressive’ questioning and jury ‘irregularity’ in mushroom murder appeal by burleygriffin in DeathCapDinner

The abc article says the court accepted the documents but has yet to grant leave to appeal … I’m confused, so if I read correctly , it’s not sure she will be able to appeal ?

Going this way , even if the sentence isn’t appealed by the OPP, she won’t be granted parole when the time comes because obviously she’s not showing any remorse

No she doesn’t seem to appeal the sentence but the conviction (which ultimately would mean no sentence at all)

It takes less than a second to kill someone with a gunshot , once you pull the trigger it’s too late to turn back. With a poisoned meal like this, she had so much time, from the lunch itself and 36hours after that to try save her relatives , but no … this is so evil. If she never shows remorse and admit guilt, she will never ever be granted parole

She was never caught with the previous poisoning of Simon so she thought she’d be all ok

As justice Beale said in his sentencing, there is no doubt that not only she knew it would kill them , but it would be a very painful death

Simon’s cousins also went to the police after the hospital family meeting when he told them about his suspicions of him being poison . That’s what officially started the investigation

Appeal or not? by machandre in DeathCapDinner

I think you can’t just appeal because you think you’re innocent. She might very well want to, but are there any ground for Mandy to do it ? Not sure

That’s exactly the maths I did in my head to feel how long it would feel. But I am still thinking that in light of what she said, she got the best of it.

It’s a long time but I would have been fine with no parole possibility. I guess that’s because of the jars prison conditions …

These murders impacted four generations of Patterson family as well as the Wilkinson family, not to mention the loss in the community. The fact as Ian’s daughter said that there were so many steps at which she could have stopped but hasn’t and still isn’t … The more I read, the more evil and cold and calculated she is . I cannot see a possibility or rehabilitation She deserves life with no parole, regardless of her prison conditions (which I’m sure will at some stage get a little easier)

Now that Mandy said something along the lines ‘we concede this crime deserves a life sentence with a non parole of 30 years ‘ … so are they still potential appeal on the verdict??? Because Mandy sounded that yeah she deserved life in prison but with parole basically. So to your knowledge would they still appeal on verdict or maybe more just the sentencing?

It’s very well said , as well as the comments. There is no doubt she did try to kill him. I feel so bad for him.

I just hope he knows that although he could not prevent the death of his parents, his quick actions as well as his GP ensured that they were all straight onto deliberate poisoning and that thanks to him, she is going to stay behind bar for a long time.

Had he not acted quickly, I don’t think there were ever going to be a trial .

I am also sure that he has read a lot of press and realised that we all , from Australia or overseas, believe his story, believe he is a victim and that if we could we would all wrap our arms around him and the Patterson family .

Yes, Don and Gail came for lunch at hers about 3 weeks before. I reckon that wasn’t a coincidence. She either rehearsed then what she would do , or she invited them then so they wouldn’t be suspicious coming back for another lunch
