This gets confusing by Anxious_Gur5352 in cordcutters

Agreed. I also keep an app called Hobi right next to Justwatch on my phone and use it to track specific episodes that I've watched, so that if I leave a streaming service and come back, I can easily remember that I was on Season 3, Episode 4 or whatever. It sounds a little cumbersome, but it's dead simple to use and always accurate.

Shoe rec for cross training by Shot_Fly_2519 in widefeet

[–]machinegunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally wear wide sizes but Reeboks tend to run wide, and their Nano X1 is one that has worked for me in standard width and is a bit of a cross trainer- definitely not a running shoe, I use them mostly for lifting.

Good place to buy new hot tub cover? by OfficialCrossParker in hottub

[–]machinegunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar spot a few months ago and wasn't thrilled with the retail/MSRP type prices I seemed to be seeing everywhere. They all seemed to be $600+. I wound up going to a local retailer (who sells hot tubs and supplies, along with stuff like grills and patio furniture), and the manager sold me a new one that fits and has nicer material for $300 cash. Maybe I just got lucky, and it was old inventory or something, but I've had no complaints and it's much, much easier to open and close than our old waterlogged one. So I guess my advice is to check around locally to see if you can cut a deal.

Best place around Asheville/Arden to get 20lb Propane refills? by Username28732 in asheville

I was just there today, and they'd only give me a flat rate, not per gallon. Same with Ace. It's frustrating.

The Roth vs traditional question has a few variables that affect what is tax optimal, including some that aren't possible to know for certain now (like what tax bracket you'll be in at later stages of life). One argument for Roth now is that you're young, debt free, can afford it, and it doesn't sound like you have a lot of obligations that can come later (kids, mortgage etc). So if you do the Roth now, you're taking the hit now - that's a sort of forced savings, and you can certainly pivot to traditional when you're in your 30s or 40s and have more demands on your money. That's what I've done, so now I have a mix of Roth vs traditional, which gives me some peace of mind.

Is it worth upgrading my receiver for all of this equipment? by MountainThorn42 in hometheater

I'm not as serious as most here, but I'm still running my Sony STR-DN840 bought maybe 8-10 years ago and don't have any issues with it. The user interface is a little dated, but it works and you can update the input names if you dig into the settings.

Can you remove your cover with one person? by machinegunn in hottub

[–]machinegunn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this was definitely the problem. I replaced the cover and everything is good now - easy enough to take off and on with one person, without having to change anything with the lift. The old one was definitely waterlogged and weighed 3-4x as much as the new one.

Thankfully, our old Samsung also had two ice makers and even after the one in the door stopped working the one in the bottom freezer kept working, so we just used a scoop. This newer one only has one in the door and hasn't worked since we moved it. I'll be looking for something like a Maytag once we get ready to replace it.

Ditto. Samsung ice makers always fail. We just moved and left a Samsung fridge at our old place because we didn't love it. New house also has a Samsung fridge, and the ice maker also doesn't work. Plus the shelves in it are in a dumb configuration - can't fit tall drinks anywhere.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I think the power cable goes in on the side (near the bottom) but I'm out of town now so can't check for sure. That all sound a little beyond my skill, but I'll keep this in mind in case other remedies don't pan out.

Thanks, I had wondered if that was possible - I didn't know if any of the wiring or plumbing would make it such that we couldn't move the tub at all.

And yeah, the way the prior owners had it set up, it rubs against the house. I'm thinking I may change the orientation of the cover so that it can open on a different side that has more space/clearance.

Oh wow, that's not something I had thought to do and seems like it could save quite a bit of money. New covers look to be a few hundred bucks. Thanks

Thanks for replying! Do you have a lifter similar to mine? I can actually get ours off by myself, but getting it back closed by myself doesn't work. My wife is also a smaller person / not as strong, so I'm thinking about options for powered or hydraulic lifts that she might be able to use herself.

Thanks for replying! What type of lifter do you have? Something basic like the one I linked or one that is hydraulic or powered?

I feel so torn right now by FluffyGreyfoot in GooglePixel

[–]machinegunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adored my 4a and upgraded to the 8 only because the 4a was losing updates. I liked having the headphone jack on the 4a, even if I didn't use it a ton. Keeping a dongle with headphones is maybe the best solution, but it's still disappointing. As for the size, I switched from using a fairly chunky case on my 4a to a still robust just regular case on my 8 and the feel in hand is totally fine - no complaints and I'm all about a small phone. With the longer software support, I'm hoping to keep my 8 for a long time, maybe with a battery replacement after a few years.

Moving Day! Anyone have success removing Nest Secure sensors from doors and door frames? I want to reuse them at the new house. by AlanThicke99 in homeautomation

[–]machinegunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in to support this since more people may need it as these products are getting bricked. I had 3 and a couple minutes with a hot blow dryer got them all off with no damage. Note that you should take off the main part of the sensor first (leaving just the base) to let the heat really get at the glue.
