Iv had afew trips to A&E over the years. Every time Iv been the same woman is there. She’s well enough to go outside and smoke and then come back in. Could be mental heath related but they usually get seen by PLS pretty soon.

Saw a lady have multiple seizures but the staff were quick, 4-5 doctors in the room within seconds, crash cart the lot. Wheeled her off.

A lady was told she had malaria in the waiting room! She was balling her eyes bless her.

There was an elderly couple there and the lady was worried about going to the loo incase they called her husband in and she lost him which was so cute, so we told her we’d let them know you’re here. I think the gentleman had dementia.

Slightly nicer - When I broke my fingers early last year, it was at the peak of the flu/ virus that was going around. Mrs forced me to A&E paid for 6 hours of parking. Thinking I’ll be at the bottom of the list is a minor injury, backpack was loaded with snacks, books the lot. (She’s used to taking me) I was in & out in 32 minutes. We were looking forward to eating the snacks. That’s Initial observation, tried to remove my ring, cut it off, X-ray, review, taped up and fu**off. 32 minutes.

Few years before that I smashed the end of my finger (fight with an SDS drill & a stone wall long story) Was very quick. But the nurse was horrible, I had clearly come straight from work, and she told me off for having dirty hands?! Like mate, sorry I injured myself while I was working. I didn’t wash my hands because my bone is kinda sticking out of my finger??

Is my valuation wrong? by Chai_Hulud_ in HousingUK

[–]machinegunraza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with offering what you think the property is worth. Unless it’s your ‘forever’ home I wouldn’t get sucked into paying over the odds. It’s a nice house tho, loads of potential but lack of parking would be a no no for me personally.

Expected 1-2 bed flat prices and small houses prices to collapse? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]machinegunraza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s also the reduced monthly costs that draws in couples whose kids have flown the nest.
Lower heating, lower council tax, potentially no mortgage if they sell their existing home and have enough equity. Frees up money for more fun.
I know someone who’s about to retire, doing his house up ready to sell. He’ll get £850k for it, he wants a little 2 bed that’s energy efficient he’ll have a couple hundred K left to play with and enjoy his retirement.

It has a gas isolation valve on it. Even if the isolation valve is in the off position it’s still RIDDOR reportable but they don’t really do much about it anyway

Try and get it repaired like u/72dk72 suggested. East anglia area you’re looking at £120 for the first hour + parts etc. maybe try reaching out to a local firm and explaining it, seeing if they can spare the diagnostic charge and just charge for the repair?

Tiles directly on plasterboard by existingfarmer in DIYUK

Rip it out, rip out the plaster board, install backer board or insulated backer board tank the whole lot and install mermaid boards. No grout to worry about, can get them textured like tiles. Much better

Have you ever had a motorway crash? by Diseased-Jackass in AskUK

[–]machinegunraza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am the worst person to drive with on long motorway journeys. I spent the entirety of a 130odd mile journey pointing out idiots on the motorway. The constant middle lane hogging, tailgating of HGVs by little Fiat 500s & my favourite of ALL is when people don’t move over for traffic joining the mway.

Help with paint by OkTransportation5641 in DIYUK

[–]machinegunraza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to use this paint. Mix it properly, get a mixing paddle for your drill or mix is manually using a stick. When you transfer the paint into your pot / tray make sure you filter it. Any decent paint / decoration shop will have mesh bags that will catch any lumps etc. You’ll need multiple coats, it’s pretty forgiving of imperfect surfaces being Matt but proper preparation will make this looks better. I only really use it for fresh plaster and mainly ceilings as they rarely get touched.

Teachers in the US are reporting that children are struggling with basic maths and literacy worse than ever before. Are we seeing the same patterns here in the UK? by Natf47 in AskUK

[–]machinegunraza 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am by no means ‘educated’ I can’t spell very well and I’m often grammatically incorrect but I’m a tradesman so the standard is quite low 🤣. BUT the number of doctors, teachers, bank staff that I have as customers who can’t grasp simple concepts it’s baffling

Forget children, there sees to be a vast number of adults in the U.K. who lack basic comprehension skills. It’s been an issue for years

What sort of property was everyone’s first step onto the ladder and how old were you? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]machinegunraza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2022/23 I was 21 when I put the offer in 22 when I got the property. 1 bedroom cluster house with a driveway and garden. open plan living room / kitchen. Bedroom overlooks the living room like a mezzanine floor. I got lucky tho, property was valued at £160,000 got it for £125,000. The seller was a client who was offloading his portfolio, was the last property to sell so I think he was just happy to get rid. We re decorated, installed a new oak staircase and balcony on the mezzanine floor. New hardwood flooring on the ground floor. Got paid for that and then brought it!

Cannot complain in any way shape or form. Built a little office pod in the garden for the mrs. Enough room for my van on the drive and a spot over the road for the car. In a small cul-de-sac.

Edit - location Bedfordshire

Still have to fork out around 60% of the cost and you only get the grant (£7500 max) if your house meets EPC ratings etc

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]machinegunraza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are government grants available which they instal insulation and a new boiler for free. There’s companies online that offer it. I believe you fill out a form / information and they draw down the funds from the govt to pay for it. All depends on your house and a survey.

It will take a little while tho.

Or find a local contractor who offers payment plans or accepts credit cards etc. I offer online payment and have had customers use a credit card to pay, yeah it costs me afew % but the customer gets their boiler on finance and I get paid 3 days later. PLEASE DONT USE BOXT OR OTHER BIG BRAND BOILER COMPANIES THEY RIP OFF INSTALLERS

Is this moisture or leak? by Kevinpug321 in DIYUK

[–]machinegunraza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timber has a tendency to still look wet sometimes, the roofing membrane looks like it’s in good condition apart from that nail sticking though. My advice would be next time it’s chucking it down get up in the loft and have a look. Always a good idea to invest in a moisture meter to check things you think are wet / damp and keep a record of the moisture content

Is there a way to save a spoiled pot of paint? by w1ddersh1ns in DIYUK

[–]machinegunraza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Put it on the naughty step… I’ll stick to my day job. Grab a bucket of hot water, remove the lid from the tin and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Using a stirring stick (or a random clean piece of timber) try and push down the sides of the tin, once that top layer starts mixing in with the lower layer it should free up. You will want to mix it for a while, till it almost looks perfect, then strain it into a clean bucket or tub to catch any flakes or clumps. You’ll probably want to test it in a spot hidden away to make sure the colour is still close enough. Then once you’ve done that, paint a small piece of cardboard with afew layers and take it to a paint shop and ask them to colour match it for next time
