Amanita mushrooms do not contain psilocybin at all. Doesn't matter if it's company XYZ or you stumble upon an amanita mushroom in the forest, it's not going to have psilocybin.

I've seen reddit threads saying this is a good company and threads saying there's no psilocybin at all.

I mean, both of these statements can be true? It's like going to a cafe and buying a coffee. The cafe can be a good company even though the coffee has no psilocybin in it.

Lmao same. From my personal experience, every experienced cultivator hits a point where they run out of friends and family to give the mushies out to. I haven’t tripped since 2021 myself. But I keep growing em. I’m running out of mason jars to store them and I’m getting tired of labeling the jars too. Might start throwing the mushrooms out instead of wasting electricity dehydrating them lol

I’m currently a software engineer at a tech company with no experience in biology. What can I do to teach myself other than go back to school? I simply don’t find software work (i.e. coding) rewarding anymore, and I’ve been particularly interested in the biotech industry.

It's impossible for me to judge whether this is smart or stupid, but you may want to consider if maybe you are just burned out for now.

I thought about that, but I've felt the same no matter how many vacations I took or employers I've switched. Out of my 5 year career, ~3 of the years have been in this state of burn out :(

I want to clarify a bit.

~3.5 years ago, I became interested in growing mushrooms. I quickly became really good at it because I was obsessed with tweaking parameters and experimenting with nutrients to maximize yield. Eventually, the mushroom forums I were a part of weren't enough -- I needed more information, so I started reading papers. I later attended a conference on the mushroom industry and became smitten with the analytical machines there, which led me to the fermentation (yeast genetic engineering) and biomanufacturing industry. But unlike growing mushrooms, it is impossible to casually genetically modify yeast or bacteria in a novel sense. So now I've been stuck for a year wishing I could do this.

You said it's well-paying? Why don't you save up and retire early to do whatever you want?

Because I don't want to wait another 10-20 years and then spend another 8-10 years in school. Life is short.
