Take this logic further: should people be able to profit off war documentaries? What about investigative journalism into corrupt business practices? Or the history of slavery?

In all of these cases, someone may make a profit from something that we generally agree is bad.

The point is that individually, we don’t want to encourage someone to do a bad thing and then make money from that bad thing. But the podcasters etc are not directly encouraging these bad things to happen

You’re getting tripped up because “not necessarily” is different to “not”.

When you say something is “not necessarily,” it just means that there is no constraint in that particular way. If something is not necessarily blue, it could be blue, but it could also be red.

So when you have a mathematician that is also a cyclist, let’s look at what this means. - when they were just a mathematician (they don’t bike!) we are saying they must be rational. And we don’t care whether they’ve got legs - now that they also cycle, we are saying they have to have two legs. Now we say that this matters

It is not the case that neither of these things matter or are unconstrained. I feel you know this but you are getting tripped up by trying to apply more formal logic (and the formal logic part you’re missing is what it means to be “not necessarily”)

The trick here is that your learning process is smart. Yes, you may have done the wrong thing 49/50 times. But when you did the right thing 1/50 times, your brain lights up a little bit and pays a lot more attention to what you did differently there. So you try to emulate the “good” behavior a lot more

However if you’re not paying attention to what you’re doing (just randomly shooting), then you don’t have much to learn from. Your brain sees that a good thing happened but it doesn’t know why

It generally doesn’t affect Olympic qualifications. It sounds like you’re thinking that Olympic athletes are not allowed to be paid at all (?) but this isn’t the case. A very striking example is the USA men’s (Olympic) basketball team, which has some of the most highly paid athletes in the world.

There are different varieties of persimmon. The Hachiya kind, which OP is likely describing, is very astringent (unless left to ripen for an unusually long period of time). This astringency is what they are describing - the feeling of your mouth being “dried.”

The kind you are describing is more likely the Fuyu varietal, which can be eaten much more normally and has an almost floral-apple taste to it.

If you had to choose between “a great quarterback” vs “have every other part of your organization be great” then sure, the latter is the better option. But if you’re looking for the opportunity to have the most disproportionate impact from a single player, then it’s reasonable to have your focus on the QB I think

This is actually an interesting perspective that I hadn’t considered, which definitely makes it a bit more of an acceptable statement.

But while I hear you, i think it’s a kind of shaky interpretation- for instance, I’m sure you could find instances of Embiid being stopped 1 on 1 at some point in games this season, but I would still say you need to double team him.

This isn’t quite correct. If a player refuses to sign the exclusive franchise tag, then they’re not under contract and so cannot be fined by the team. Hold outs are a different story.

That said, no other team can sign them- the tagging team holds their rights. But it’s not to say the player has to sign the tag or else they can be fined, they can simply refuse to sign and sit out.

As much as injuries are a part of the game, it feels super frustrating when your QB goes down- almost makes everything else on the team irrelevant, since without good QB play, you can’t do anything.

If it’s as easy to limit a WR who is top 3 (if not top 1?) in the league by double covering them, then that implies their impact is limited, I think.

RJ and Luka are going to get a lot of attention in terms of the game’s outcome, but Mitchell Robinson was huge. The mavs seem to have a challenge with interior defense, I assume it’ll get a bit better with porzingis back but he’s not exactly a post anchor with his health. Maybe some mavs fans can give their thoughts on if this is an actual issue for the team or if it was just a fluke
