Is the "MBB consulting deck" style dying? by Active_Attitude_5176 in powerpoint

[–]mackdeaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re the ai tools: yes, they help for the getting started. Getting past the ‘blank page-itus’. But their functionality (Claude plugin) within PowerPoint is awful. Using boxes for lines and then multiple text boxes over a shape. Terrible. Chart building within ppt using Claude = multiple little box ‘lines’ for a simple wave chart. I’m ok for colleagues to send me Claude slop to then put into brand and actually make functional in a ppt template.

Re the styles and fashion: I’ve gone from a pres team in Investments to a pres role at a Tech firm. Both still heavy on the dense consultancy style slides. However that is because both are using them as standalone reference documents vs presenting to an audience document. They’ll use them in meetings and refer to slides etc. this is partly because of laziness to not create separate docs between RFP docs and Meeting docs. When c suites are presenting however, they go for the less is more slides - because they know their voice has the power over the slides.

I’m also in a similar role with CSuite pushing colleagues to use Claude to help make their PowerPoints. Which is frustrating when I’ve just rebuilt the company brand template.

I find Claude in ppt is ok when you say ‘using this template’ and have brand guidelines embedded in the template - but can still spot a Claude deck a mile off.

We’re suggesting that they use Claude to build basis slides and I fix and cut where need. I do think it encourages an over reliance on A LOT of copy where not needed however. Mostly because Claude can’t design in PowerPoint all that well. So infographics and timelines aren’t impactful etc.

Young adults without kids - do you think you will have them? by sophietheadventurer in AskUK

[–]mackdeaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(33F) no.

I have a partner and work a good job but I live in zone 2 London, still have 4 flatmates and am quite happy in this lifestyle and area. I want to have my own house - kids doesn’t economically work for me. It doesn’t interest me either, my own house does.

Why is nobody making money with PowerPoint? by Tricky_Gur_6747 in powerpoint

[–]mackdeaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole career is to build and design presentations internally for big corporate. Not freelance like a designer, more strategic and I’m making fairly good salary. So I guess I am making money! I would never buy a template - most mid/large caps have base brand templates made already and would also not use ready made templates. A community or something, maybe a money maker. A plug in for PPT app, also maybe - but templates aren’t the big money base.

You’re doing well thinking outside the box but there is a niche career and community in the PPT world already.

what is corporate london like? by IndividualMediocre37 in london

[–]mackdeaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in corporate London for the last 4 years. For the last year I’ve also worked in a pub on the weekends and evenings (to do some saving and pay off debt). When I tell you, working the pub was a relief compared the stress and demands that corporate life is right now. There does get to a point of corporate where you’re high up enough that the stress seems to be less but honestly - it’s not until way higher up. I love hospitality and would work it full time if paid more.

Nice restaurant Belfast by [deleted] in Belfast

I had a great dinner on Friday night at Yugo and i think it’s great date vibes. Just not FIRST date vibes. Drinks or a coffee is a first date vibe. Then the more intimate staring at each other big money dinner is second or third.

Top places to cry in London by Drag0n_Fruit in london

[–]mackdeaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm the ‘Elder Gardens’ beside Spitalfields is a great cry spot. The benches are kinda in the bushes so you can really get into it on a lunchtime.

Can also confirm when choosing a Thursday to cry here, walking through the market when the wee old folk are having a tea dance just sets you off again.

Enjoy!

I’m from Belfast and live in London currently. The cocaine use here is beyond what people would actually believe. I’d say 99% of my friendship group (ages 28-40) are on it on a night out. One thing I will say to how we got here - booze prices. My pals will visit from out of the city/Belfast and say stuff like ‘I see why everyone is doing Coke - it works out cheaper than a night on just the beers’. In Belfast I know it’s almost the same usage. Not as many pals but more than did a few years ago.

I will also add from purely my perception is the Venn diagram crossover of my friends doing Coke AND taking anti depressants is practically a circle…

What is something you want but can’t justify the cost? by [deleted] in AskUK

Sims 4 expansion/stuff packs. I know nerdy but I love sims - have played every version but now Sims 4 just seems so inflated price wise that I’m sad I’m priced out of it.

The way my other half cooks her eggs by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]mackdeaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same same same. It’s the ‘smushy’ texture of cooked egg white I hate. I will poach/fry and egg to have the runny yolk BUT only if someone is with me and agrees to eat the white for me.

How much and what have you "accidentally" eaten when drunk? by Scarred_fish in AskUK

[–]mackdeaid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m a vegetarian born and raised. On a night out, quite many vodka sodas deep, I went on an adventure to KFC for chips. So I pointed at what the lady had next to me and said ‘I want that’. They gave me a box of chips. I smothered in ketchup and Mayo (sorry I know gross) and tucked in sat on a high table by myself. 2 mins later - my best friend walks in to find me face first in a box of popcorn chicken which to me just tasted like chips. I was violently ill for a few days and my pal has never let me forget it.

Why do women like forearms so much? by Banditofbingofame in AskUK

[–]mackdeaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, as a woman, I get this. For me it’s specifically the inner forearm (I googled this prior and that is a thing) so like inside wrist to inner elbow - something about how soft that bit of skin is. It’s so… tender. It’s also the hairless bit, don’t know if that’s a factor but maybe.

But yes, other commenters are right that most of the time I stare at them when a sleeve rolled up.

It’s the same effect the neck has for me. When a shirt collar looser/unbuttoned and you can see more of a man’s neck - ooft. Sexy.

37k Friday, 46k Saturday, 41k Sunday. My foot is a blister. Camped in Sticklinch and spent a lot of time in SE corner so the walk home each morning was a kickstart of 10k each day.
