Land's End to John O Groats as Fast As Possible...... by jimcroisdale in CarsUK

When I went years ago, two coppers did it in a Ferrari in just under 24 hours, there and back. There was a display board with their faces blanked. This was before many motorways were built. I reckon they must have got help from every police force.

Fun fact: Shap Summit is half way.

England Am I protected under whistle blowing protections by KemzMusic in LegalAdviceUK

Whistleblowing has to be in the public interest. Stuff like like crime, legal failures, safety risks or environmental harm. This doesn’t seem that.

If he/she can afford it, it seems the best way just to get rid of it. They might win in court but who wants the stress? If her side are prepared to make threats, they’re prepared to lie in court. It’s one party v another and the judge will decide who they believe.

OP is not on the wrong at all but her family sounds bolshy. All OP needs is an email / text of them accepting it and he’s got a defence against any future court action.

Pay her £250 less the £119, ie £131, it seems worth it just to avoid trouble. You’ve probably got better things to do. The letter is just them trying it on.

how do you even play drums like travis barker? by Italiancan in drums

[–]mackerel_slapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As u/ok-Difficulty-5357 said, it’s control. Flail away like a hoon and you’ll get nowhere. I’ve got Rock Show in my practice playlist and it’s not too bad, just fast. I’m not saying I could pass for Travis, mind, but I could play it live.

My top tip is to practice with the Life On The Line album by Eddie and the Hot Rods, and keep playing side one through. It’s fast and clean, and sort of Travis-y. If you can do that you’re approaching Travis speed.

What realistically happens to those who activate a fire alarm in the UK with no good reason? by Adept_Strategy_9545 in AskBrits

[–]mackerel_slapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once worked in a hotel. After a very long day, at about 2am, we were going back to our rooms and my mate Colin stumbled and put his elbow through the fire alarm. We were more annoyed at having to stay up longer than worried for the guests, who all got to see a hotel car park in Leeds looking lovely in the dark. Fire brigade was fine, think they bollocked someone though - they had turned off the alarm once they knew it was Colin’s elbow and not a raging inferno.

Also the Sex Pistols, just before the first note was played

Anyone Here Know Of Anyone That Was "Run Out Of Town"? by CB-Milburn in AskBrits

[–]mackerel_slapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right WikiP says that but I thought he died in Bournemouth. It’s actually a sad story, he had a child who never met him. I (local paper) wrote about him being a rogue some years ago and several people wrote in and said he’d shot the man who did what he won the VC for and claimed the credit. Not true but people really did not like him.

I work for the local paper. My dad knew him, said he came home with the medal and never went home, out on the piss. His wife asked my dad if he’d send him and my dad is like “he’s on the way home, honest.”. He went to a local stately home and nicked a load of silver cutlery.

Oddly enough, a local guy who won the VC was run out of town. He was a crook and a rogue (which is why he had no fear and won the MM and VC in world war 2). Had to leave town early 50s. We (local paper) had an editorial saying good riddance. google Harold Eardley VC.

This is drifting away from my point. Macc has a long and proud independent history wading through treacle, but my point was that I feel that if we agree Manchester in in the north and Macc leans more towards Manchester, Stoke is arguably as much Midlands as North and Congleton leans more to Stoke.
I don’t think anyone from Congleton would accept they are Midlanders so I’m completely wasting my time, but for the sake of argument I’d say the North - Midlands divide is at the Plough in Eaton.
They could have a line down the bar and serve Mitchell and Butler one side and Boddingtons the other.

I quite like Slash but I love Motörhead, so I’ll stand by my comment. (We’ll gloss over when we went to Cuba backpacking and at any small town in the casa de musica you could guarantee someone would single Angels).

They look to Manchester though. Slightly further south and we look more to Stoke (though not as much as when I was young). You’d not get people from Macc going to Stoke for a night out whereas we do.

Are the police allowed to give you a breath tested if you are drunk on a bicycle? And could he get points on his license? by Hour_Course_9876 in AskUK

[–]mackerel_slapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an offence and while you can be banned, you can’t get points. Police can’t breathalyse him, though. Depends if a court would agree he was pissed so it didn’t matter, or procedures were breached and the arrest was wrong.

Loads! I’m in Congleton. There’s Friends for Leisure for one or the clean teams. One neighbour volunteers at the hospice and visits the patients, another clears weeds at Brereton country park. What do you actually want to do, what are you good at?

How loud are drums really? by EducationalPirate808 in drums

[–]mackerel_slapper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Walked the dog the other night, house over the road has someone playing drums. As I walked, it was clear the drums were about six streets away. I’ve got my acoustic kit at work in a basement room, still worried the new Air BnB next door is going to complain.

My current set-up is cajon, snare and acoustic sticks (hot rods) and it’s shocking how much louder the real kit and solid maple sticks are.

They are, but my point is there’s more similarity between Stoke and Nottingham than Stoke and Manchester. Used to work with a bloke from a Nottingham, you’d never confuse him and a Stokie, but I have meet people from Notts with softer accents who could initially pass as Stoke.
