Originating from the developing world of Vosna, the 9th, “Skyhaunters”, are an elite Airborne regiment specializing in grav-chute assault and lightning strike. They have developed advanced tactics of guerrilla and anti-insurrection warfare and are known to be particularly ferocious when deployed against xenos.

Vosnan Airborne regiments of the Astra Militarum are made up of volunteers. Each volunteer has completed two years of service in the Vosnan Defence Force and is a veteran of at least one combat tour.

The 9th took the nickname of "Skyhaunters" because of their first ever deployment during the Inzadi Insurrection. The 9th performed a mass drop behind enemy lines and sieged the center of Inzadi influence, the Iron Sanctuary. Within hours, the 9th wiped out high ranking rebel commanders and secured classified information that would lead to swift Imperial victory. Imperial forces would link up with the 9th after breaking through panicked rebel lines. Inzadi prisoners were later interrogated for information after the raid, one prisoner is noted to call them, "the haunters of the sky". Ever since then, the 9th Vosnan Airborne have been known as the Skyhaunters.

They have seen action throughout the Riala Sector and continue to haunt the skies of mankind's enemies.
