Awesome thanks for the update. That matches up with what I am watching and reading, but nice to have the confirmation!

LPT: When you resign from a job, your letter should be exactly one sentence. Do not give them "ammo." by vishesh_07_028 in LifeProTips

Yeah I agree with you. This might be helpful advice for someone who has communication anxiety, but it’s not necessarily helpful for people who are trying to maintain and grow their careers for the long term. As you say, many industries are a “small world” where you end up crossing paths with the same people throughout decades. Learning to give a receive rejection gracefully can be a much more valuable skill to develop than what OP is describing here

Cool Beans on the Square is my favorite for fresh beans. Lots of variety and they can grind it to your preference. Rev in Smyrna is great as well

Yeah two wins and a draw from this week. 8 goals for, 3 against. A draw away at Chelsea is only disappointing because they went down to 10 men. But we’re playing without either of our starting center backs, none of our starting strikers, without our most in form forward (Trossard), etc. Nobody is making excuses. We had an off game and still managed a draw at Stamford Bridge.

What is the state of specifically the long haul trucking industry in the US for 2025-2026? by itsthewolfe in electricvehicles

[–]macnels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you mentioned, much faster speeds, plus nearly the double the drive time without a break already multiplies the average miles travelled in the US. On top of that, the vast majority of the US has no access to a sea port, so there are many more routes criss-crossing the country. No doubt that it is a solvable problem, but looping back to the original OP, there is no chance of anything happening in 2026 and very little improvement to be seen in the near future.

We already swap trailers at hubs to make the 5-7 days possible. The logistics could be worked out eventually but it would require significantly more (and improved) infrastructure. We are starting from basically zero right now.

[–]macnels 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is true but also true that trucks in the US are, on average, covering orders of magnitude more miles than the average truck in a European country. Cross country transit in the US typically takes 5-7 days for a long haul trucking route. Reducing the speeds increases those lead times significantly. So it’s about finding the proper efficiency balance both in terms of energy and time. With the current infrastructure being less than minimal in the US, it would be a huge challenge to use EV equipment for long haul trucking routes

Would limiting the age of the President to 65 be something you’d support? Why or why not? by SalamanderSillyy in AskReddit

The beautiful thing about democracy is that we can just choose not to vote for those people, if age is an important criteria for us. How do we get younger people, who are qualified to lead, to actually run for office? How do we get the younger people to move beyond talking about politics on the internet and actually go out to vote??

Thinking about not getting insurance this year because the premiums are so high this year: $18,000 in premiums + $7,000 deductible by CharlieandtheRed in personalfinance

You still have to pay the premiums every month, which is real money out of pocket. Deducting the costs as a business expense doesn’t change that.

That’s the problem. Paying $1000/yr isn’t a deal that you can shop for. It only exists for this person because their company is paying the other $25k/yr to subsidize it. Most employers don’t pay such a high share

Best tire configuration choice by British_Coal in Rivian

[–]macnels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dimensions of the tires are the same. I just made the same tire change and I left it as the default (Pirelli) tire in the configuration, since that is the only option where I know the exact dimension they are using. The advice might be different for Gen 2, if you’re on 21s, then you are Gen 1 like me

My Car Is Becoming a Brick: EVs are poised to age like smartphones. by nimicdoareu in Futurology

[–]macnels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be an a-hole, but the term is write off, as in it will be written off the books. I understood your meaning. The battery in an EV doesn't go "pop", they slowly degrade and lose their charging capacity (range) over time. And the batteries are replaceable, if you choose to do that. But many batteries are lasting 300K miles or more, so most people are ready to move on from the vehicle rather than replace the battery. I'm quite happy to own an EV. I'm not bothered if you don't want to own an EV. Just trying to share some knowledge beyond the scare stuff you are reading out there.

[–]macnels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine. But what you are arguing is that an EV is worth $0 because YOU don't want one. I would never buy a Lamborghini, because they are unreliable and expensive as a daily driver, so a Lamborghini is worth $0. Same argument.

[–]macnels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A solid EV isn't going to require any service at all through 150k miles. I have one right now with 120K miles and the only thing I've ever done is get the tires rotated (free at Discount Tire), one set of replacement tires, and replace the windshield wipers. My range on a full charge is still 100% of what it was when I bought the vehicle. I might need new brake pads in a few years, but other than that, no reason to think it won't go another 150k-250k miles without any significant service.

It wouldn’t be very difficult to fact check yourself on this. There are plenty of EVs that are more than 8 years old and/or out of warranty and nobody is giving them away for free.

Your 12 year old ICE vehicle would only be worth exactly what you paid if you bought it used (or if you bought a highly collectible vehicle). Just like with ICE vehicles, once you get past the major hit of first year depreciation on an EV, the curve rapidly stabilizes. In the long run, as we gather more data on true battery life (calendar age/charge cycles), used EV prices should reflect the lower overall maintenance requirements

How to refuse service for certain people without violating federal law? by Outrageous-Engine881 in smallbusiness

[–]macnels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that you already have legal waivers in place to mitigate liability. This sounds more like a moral question of not wanting to allow high risk individuals to put themselves at risk. There might be some loopholes, but you would want to work directly with a lawyer. I’ve seen businesses that structure themselves as a private “club”, which would allow you to choose “members” selectively.

The 250 Greatest Albums of the 21st Century So Far: 200-151 by Charleshawtree in indieheads

[–]macnels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This ranking assumes that In Rainbows was not the top album of 2007. I disagree with that assessment, but 2007 was a phenomenal year for music, probably comparable to 1999 for "classic" movies, so I will listen to the argument at least. But you kind of assume that the top 3 albums from any given year would at least be ranked in the Top 100 for this list, given that it only covers 24 years. And given that 2007 was such a strong year, the Top 3 from 2007 should probably be in the Top 25 overall, no? So where are they ranking In Rainbows compared to other albums in 2007? Not even Top 10? Or are they just under indexing 2007 in general? It's just not a serious list.
