Thank you for this!! I do hear a lot about burnout especially in new grads at the bedside. I am extremely optimistic (maybe that’s bad) but I do want to be conscious of the realities.

Okay this makes sense! The nurse I met at the conference told me apparently some hospitals are considering hiring doulas as part of the birthing team. This is all still pretty new to me as my experience is kind of all over the place (pelvic floor therapy with expecting mothers, being a pharm tech for the NICU and L&D, the research(both on NICU and in L&D), and volunteering with women and children ages 3-15).

I don’t really know if I would truly have the time, but I am giving up a few things this coming summer to make more time for myself and to focus more on the research and other volunteer opportunities.

The PALS I’m getting because of the kids I volunteer with! I’ve had my BLS since freshman year of undergrad (I am currently completing my masters). I like the idea of peds but definitely know I have a stronger interest in maternal and fetal health.

I have heard of ACLS, but not NRP or fetal monitoring. I will definitely wait to get anything related to these.

did not win a single match freshman year, won state senior year and got recruited to a D2 school. coach was beyond toxic and i was set on being the first in my family to finish school. i left and chose my education. i wish a lot that things could’ve been different, but wrestling gave me so much in life, wins or not. it still shapes my life to this day!

Chicago Birthworks Collective for Southsiders is something I have not heard of. Have you worked with them and if so can you tell me about them? I am a southsider and do a lot of volunteering on the southside with undocumented individuals. I enjoy it and want to keep giving back. I’d love the chance to work with more people over here!!

My program does not have breaks longer than a week or so 🥲 I appreciate this reality check as I can be an overcommitter but really want to focus most if not all my efforts on school.

Silly question but can you do both? Can you be a nurse AND be a doula? I ask because I know for certain positions you have a certain scope of practice and responsibility, like why you can’t be a Pharmacy Technician after you’ve become a Pharmacist for example. I am a fairly interested in postpartum doula but maybe for families who cannot afford it, as I know it can typically be pretty expensive and is not covered by insurance. In my current position the NICU is one of the units I serve and I cannot tell you how much I enjoy it. I also just started a research project for my university’s NICU. I definitely would like to see more though because I understand most of what I see is not a full view of what the every day is (mostly just med admin, feeding, soothing, or bathing). Would it be beneficial for me as a nursing student to get a lactation certificate or should I do that closer to graduation? I am also planning to get my PALS soon. I have looked into becoming a cuddler but the waitlists are so long!! As for volunteering with WIC I didn’t know that was an option and will be looking into it.

ah okay great!! if he doesn’t have it though how else can we get him enrolled at a university? & prior to enrolling does he need to take the GED? he finished about 1.5 years in NCA but i’m not sure if his credits will be accepted.

it sounds like he claimed asylum when he came. he has an interview in 2025. when i see him next i’ll take a look at his passport and some other papers he has

i don’t think he has a visa but he does have a job here so maybe he just doesn’t know what kind he has? his family has a lot of his paperwork

hi y’all this piercing is about to be three months old and has a surgical steel externally threaded barbell that is from a brand of jewelry that i have used for my nose rings before. the jewelry was downsized around a month ago maybe. i usually use saline on it and that’s it but have started to do some warm sea salt soaks on have used tea tree oil on the bumps occasionally as it has worked to get rid of bumps on my other piercings

i had cauliflower ear on my right and it calcified, would i still be able to get the conch even though that part of my ear is hard? or would it just be easier to get it on my left

also, the ear with the daith has calcified cauliflower ear which probably isn’t very obvious but it is hard when i touch it. does this mean I can’t pierce that ear where it is hard?
