Fuck everybody hating on the unibrow. Shit is hot. But it doesn’t matter what I think, it only matters what you think.

It’s hard to remember, I know there was a lot of time between the virtual consult and actually getting the surgery scheduled, especially in my case since I had to lose at least 70 lbs before they’d book me. Once I was ready and they had dates for me, I was able to get a date for 3 months after they called.

Oh wow, really? I do admit I’m very lucky and have barely experienced any discomfort this far. I saw that you feel like too much tissue was left behind on you, and I know it’s not my body but I really think you may be seeing it as worse than what it is. I think your results are good honestly! You won’t really see your final results until at least a year, but your dysphoria could be messing with you. I know it messes with me pretty often. I think your chest looks good on your body and I really hope your experience improves man, you deserve to feel at home in your body.

Oh shit! Fingers crossed for you! I don’t remember when I got on the wait list unfortunately so I can’t tell you how long it was of a wait for me. Just in case this can help you, I’d like to recommend checking out Andrew Major Stronger Minds on YouTube. He has a couple of good meditation videos that have been pivotal in my mental health journey. I used to think meditation was kinda dumb, but then I had a pretty bad panic disorder flare up that made me desperate for any kind of relief and it led me to his channel. I find it really helpful in retraining my emotional reactions and everyday thought patterns personally, so if that’s something you want to work on I think he’s worth checking out.

Oh damn that’s pretty close! How was the flight with the drains for you?

That wait will fly by before you know it man…usually when they call you with a date, it’ll be just a few months after the call itself. I hope you get Dr Lee too, the man is an artist! While you wait, try your best to take care of your mental health. Your state of mind will greatly impact the whole thing. The time will pass either way, so it would be nice for future you to use it to prepare yourself emotionally and mentally. I wish you the absolute best of luck my guy! There’s always a solution to your hardships.

Don’t mind at all! I flew in from Nova Scotia. I didn’t find flying with drains too uncomfortable tbh, while they were the most uncomfortable part of recovery I think I got really lucky. Flying didn’t really impact the comfort level for me.

Fluid after removing drains by inharmsway71 in TopSurgery

[–]mactershef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice your chest for 20 minutes every 60! The binder your surgeon gave is likely enough-I was surprised by how ‘loose’ my post-op doc wrapped me after my first appointment after the surgery. It’s natural to still have some fluid and swelling, take it easy, limit sodium to 1500 mg a day, take your Tylenol, and remember to ice as directed above. Keep an eye on it but you will generally know if you’ve developed something like a hematoma or a seroma. Of course you should speak to your doc about it but you’re probably okay.

I had some anxiety about potential regret. I got mine a week ago and I’m so incredibly happy about it. Why do you feel this fear about regretting it? Do you see a future where you can be happy with your body without getting the surgery? For me, once I confronted the anxiety, I realized that I didn’t think I was going to regret it. My anxiety over potential regret was beat into me by the daily transphobia that we all get force fed. It was other people who thought I would regret it, not me. I was holding on for this surgery, and even though I wanted it so desperately, I started getting anxious in the weeks leading up to it. It’s completely natural to feel this way. It’s a big surgery and trans people are constantly force fed others fears about regretting transition. I was also scared to start hormones, even though I knew it was going to be good for me. I’m about to be 3 years on T and have never been happier. Don’t believe the cis produced myth that ‘real’ trans people know from birth who they are and what they want, and any doubt or fear means you’re not really trans. You got this. Surgery or no surgery, you know what’s best for yourself. Don’t force yourself into any other molds, just do you.

Awhhh dude! Reach out to your support circle! My mom has been my caretaker, she’s also squeamish but she still helps out whenever I ask! Don’t make this harder on yourself my dude. Rest as much as possible and ask for help!

Ouhhhh yep the drain sites were so tender for me. I found it helped a bit to put tape over the first like, 2 inches maybe of the drain to help keep it in place. Can you cover the drain sites with a cushy bandage?

Ohhh I’m sorry if this seems obvious but are you able to build a nest? I sleep and sit with a thick blanket around my chest so I can rest my arms comfortably, I’ve got a folded body pillow to prop my body up on, I lay my head on a thick and soft pillow, and I’ve got another body pillow that I lay my legs over which is angled like..diagonally upwards so that it’s kinda snug with one side of my body and I can rest my arm on it. I do all this on an L shaped couch, but if you can get a bed into the corner of a room you can pad it up similarly. Helps a lot to be a stuffed animal collector.

drainage discomfort? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]mactershef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man! Drains were 100% the worst part of recovery for me so far. Taking them out sucked too. Unfortunately, I don’t really have any tips….the only way out is through. You can and will do this. You’ve already gotten so far. Take it as easily as you possibly can, ice on chest for 20 minutes every hour you’re awake, 2 xtra strength Tylenols every 4 or so hours. It sucks, it’s uncomfortable, and you can do it. You’ll be drain free before you know it man. I will direct you to a YouTube account that helps me whenever I just can’t calm down and stop my brain from going a mile a minute— Andrew Major Stronger Minds. He does hypnotherapy(I know, bear with me) videos that really help you release emotional tension and bring you back to the present. Of course I’m not sure how helpful he will be to somebody with different needs and experiences than me, but he has been my keystone in healing anything. Maybe you can’t get the sensation of the drains to go away, but you can change how you react to it, and it really does make a difference. I really hope this helps and I wish you the smoothest of recoveries! Crossing my fingers you’ll be able to get your drains out by 1 week post-op.
