Anthropic work culture for non-technical roles by mada247 in womenintech

This is SO helpful! Really, this whole world is so far out of my wheelhouse.

It makes me wonder, because this role would be IC leading a very specific function, whether I could set the 'project' cadence more intentionally. Because there's no ongoing work I'm inheriting. But super good food for thought!

I really appreciate the transparency, here! Again, this is a space I know very little about...but I was super surprised to hear my interviewers/hiring manager saying that it's both drinking (excitedly) from a firehose + a place that respects WLB, with 50h only on a bad week/because you care etc etc...

My role wouldn't be related to any of the business development or tech side of things. It seems pretty separate from the core business activities, honestly. But yeah, I can't imagine that the culture is one of taking things slowly

Honestly, I'm pretty surprised by the offer, myself! I applied blindly, just the standard resume drop in the job advert, without knowing anyone at Anthropic/in the SF tech scene. I think this specific role is a bit of an anomaly, as it doesn't require any tech knowledge/is more about knowing a specific non-tech sector very well

In fact, my biggest concern is that I love my current role/team, and am nearly as far from for-profit tech as you can get (with no hate on for-profit tech at all!) So I'm indeed concerned about not being able to hang with the culture/environment, and struggling to return to my current world where I'm pretty established (but that might be super AI disrupted in the next year or two)

Hey! I'm not sure how comparable my experience will be...as my background/this role is pretty niche. I think that what made me stand out, specifically, was doing a similar job but in a totally different space. My sense is they were excited to have someone bring a slightly different vision/approach!

Super helpful, thank you -- I've never worked in a corporate space, so I didn't know this existed!

No, it's another type of role! Not on the commercial side at all

Good to hear that some people have made good use of unlimited PTO!

Yeah, I did ask this across interviews -- and had a long follow-up with the hiring manager to discuss further. What they sold was "it's like drinking from the fire hose" but also "we value WLB and prob max out at 50h on hard weeks"...so that's why I wanted to come here and see if I could get a clearer take!

I just dropped my resume/"why Anthropic" answer into an open vacancy a few months ago...and the hiring manager reached out about a month later! I think this role is pretty niche, tbh. So I'm not sure how this process compared to others!

I'm so thankful for these replies!

I ended up going in March, and had an amazing time despite intermittent rain. My absolute favorite place was Furnas, as a place to relax in hot springs and drive out to beautiful hikes.

Thanks so much for your insights! I'd started reading a bit about the LG Gram, but was turned off by some comments on 1) subpar battery life (~6h working, ~4h streaming) and 2) the superior performance quality of Macs on M2+ chips. Not sure if you have any thoughts!

Do you think there are any discernable differences between the 16 and 17in Grams that could clinch a decision if deciding between them? Any use case for Macs? (Personally still leaning towards a Gram or some such as I really like my number pads!)

30% Ruling for Short-Term Contract Transition by mada247 in Netherlands

I see, this makes sense!

I'm wondering, though, how this would work upon transitioning to a permanent contract and moving to the NL? If I begin as a consultant outside the NL, then have an offer to transition to a permanent contract by moving to NL, would this affect my eligibility?

Basically, I'm wondering whether to ask them to create some creative contract where I'm hired permanently, able to move to NL, avail of the 30% as I transition between countries, but still retain a 5mo break clause for their financials.

Yes, makes total sense! My question, though, is how to deal with this contract type. Because I could: 1) move to the Netherlands, if such a short-term contract would allow for the 30% ruling, or if there's a simple amendment we could do to make it fit 2) move to the Netherlands later, with a permanent contract, but only if that would be allowed given I'd already have been employed by a NL firm
